There are many reasons why Destination X attracted many reality show fans. For example, ever since the trailer for Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s reality travel show was released, fans have been fascinated to learn what kind of host he would be. On top of Jeffrey’s stellar hosting helping to make Destination X the hot new reality show of the summer, the cast played a major role in its success. For that reason, it was great to learn that filming Destination X was a lot of fun for its cast.
Among the cast of Destination X, there is no doubt that Rick Szabo was one of the most interesting competitors. Even after the game was over, Rick remained fascinating when he exclusively told TheThings that he didn’t betray Christian “Biggy” Bailey as fans claimed he did.
Destination X’s Rick Szabo Explained Why He Felt That Taking Christian “Biggy” Bailey Out Wasn’t A Betrayal
In July 2025, TheThings journalist Matthew Thomas exclusively interviewed Rick Szabo about his Destination X experience. As that conversation began, Rick was asked about his decision to betray Christian “Biggy” Bailey and take him out of the game. In response, Rick instantly questioned the idea that he betrayed Biggy.
“Was it a betrayal? Did I have an alliance with Biggy or did Biggy have an alliance with Shayne?
Rick then went on to explain what his relationship with Biggy was like in the game, from his perspective.
During his discussion with TheThings, Rick explained that he considered Biggy a friend, before again stating they didn’t have an alliance.
“I was friends with Biggy. I enjoyed getting to know Biggy. We were friends. Like, we were bunkmates. We shared a lot of things, but we didn’t have an alliance.”
For anyone questioning Rick’s perspective on whether he betrayed Biggy or not, what he said next was very compelling.
While talking to TheThings about why he didn’t betray Biggy, Rick pointed out something extremely valid. After bringing up Josh Martinez calling him out during the first episode, Rick stated that Biggy refused to create an alliance with him at that point when he needed someone.
“At the end of episode one, Josh threw me under the bus. Right? In episode two, I went to everybody. You saw how awkward it was when I was asking everybody, ‘Do you wanna work with me? I’m open to any alliances.’ Crickets. Nobody wanted to work with me. I was a leper. I was up in the front of the bus, and everyone was in the back of the bus. I was alone.”
Rick then explained that after Biggy refused to work with him, he actually built an alliance with Peter Weber and JaNa Craig. As a result, Rick argued that taking Biggy out wasn’t a betrayal, it was him staying loyal to his true ally, Peter.
“When Pete and JaNa came on, that was my opportunity. I finally had somebody who wanted to work with me, both of them. We were like. ‘Alright this is official. This is an alliance.’ My loyalty is to them, and I never ever betrayed Peter or Jana. We were in it to the end. So, when it came down to Biggy or Peter, who am I gonna choose? It’s a no-brainer. All I wanted to do was stay true to my word, which was, hey, Pete.”
Destination X’s Rick Szabo Admitted That Seeing Christian “Biggy” Bailey Taken Out Was Hard To Watch
After Rick Szabo did a great job telling TheThings why he didn’t betray Christian “Biggy” Bailey, he admitted that it was still a painful situation. While talking to TheThings, Rick stated how hard watching Biggy’s emotional exit was for him.
“I will give you this. It was hard to watch. It was absolutely gut-wrenching.”
Not only did Rick admit that the moment was hard to watch, he revealed how deeply it affected him.
Despite defending his actions to TheThings, Rick admitted that he couldn’t look at Biggy’s reaction at the time, and he cried while watching that moment on TV.
“I teared up watching it last night and you could see how hard it was for me in the moment. I couldn’t even turn around and face Biggy because I knew it was gonna crush him because I knew he trusted me. I built that rapport with him that he thought I was as far as the last person there, on his side.”
Most Destination X fans would definitely agree with the sentiment that seeing Biggy’s reaction to leaving the game was heartbreaking to watch.
