In a striking incident in Florida, a 15-year-old girl was charged with a felony after she was caught on camera attacking a police vehicle with a metal shovel while an officer was inside. The dramatic event unfolded in a quiet Port St. Lucie neighborhood on November 3.
According to local authorities, Amy Chance was taken into custody when police responded to a disturbance at her family residence. The Port St. Lucie Police Department, in a press release, detailed the circumstances leading to her arrest.
Footage from the officer’s body camera, which was made public by the police department, captures the teenager approaching the police cruiser in the middle of the street, wielding the shovel menacingly. Without any apparent provocation or interaction, she proceeded to strike the vehicle multiple times.
The officer, visibly surprised by the unexpected attack, is heard exclaiming, “Are you kidding me?” before he quickly exits his vehicle. He then draws his taser and commands the teenager to drop the shovel, bringing the chaotic encounter to a tense standoff.
“Are you kidding me?” the officer is heard saying aloud before exiting his car, pulling out his taser, and ordering the 15-year-old to drop the shovel.
With the taser pointing directly at her, the teen is seen mean-mugging the cop before dropping the shovel.
Chance then flips off the cop and begins to walk away before the officer closes in on the teen and orders her to stop.
“Get on the f–king ground,” the officer calmly, but sternly tells Chance as he turns her around, makes her kneel on the pavement, and puts her in handcuffs.

Authorities said the 15-year-old was taken into custody without incident.
Chance is now facing a felony criminal mischief charge for causing more than $1,200 worth of damage to the patrol car.
“Regardless of age, resorting to intentional damage of people or property in our city will result in an arrest,” the Port St. Lucie Police Department said in its press release.
It remains unclear why police were called to Chance’s home, and why she decided to strike the police cruiser.

The 15-year-old’s arrest comes nearly two months after a police officer in California fatally shot an unhinged man who charged at him with a shovel in broad daylight outside an elementary school in Anaheim.
An officer responded to a 911 call around 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 15 about a suspicious man, possibly under the influence, who was carrying a brick and a shovel.
When the officer arrived, 36-year-old Rudy Anthony Martinez II spotted the patrol car across the intersection and charged toward it while wielding the shovel.
The officer was barely out of his cruiser before the madman started swinging the implement, dashcam footage shows.
The cop ordered Martinez to “sit down” during the attack — warning him he’s “gonna get shot” — if he doesn’t stop his attack. Fearing for his safety, the officer fires two warning shots, but Martinez continues to charge.
The Anaheim cop then opens fire on the crazed man with the shovel. Martinez died 30 minutes after arriving at the hospital.
