Emergency services were called to Regiment Grove in Winston Hills about 7pm yesterday after the man was shot in the chest while in a car.
After the man was shot, he attempted to seek aid from nearby homes but became unresponsive before emergency services arrived.
Paramedics treated him and rushed him to Westmead Hospital but he later died.
One teenager said she saw the police lights from her bedroom window before heading out onto the street with her father.
“I saw a policeman taping off the road and a man on a stretcher being pulled up into an ambulance with a gunshot wound in his chest,” she said, describing him as “not well”.
David, another resident, said he was “very surprised” to have something like this take police in his neighbourhood.
“[I’m] very worried. It’s a nice area. I have my kids here,” he said.
“They go to school in the area, and it’s a really nice area and I’m just, yeah, very concerned about it.”
At about 11.15pm emergency services were called to Bounty Place in Old Toongabbie following reports of a fire.
Police arrived on the scene and found a Toyota SUV in flames.
The blaze was extinguished and no injuries were reported.
Crime scenes were established at both locations, which are believed to be linked.
No perpetrators of the shooting have been found, though investigation and searches are ongoing.
There’s no information to suggest the two shootings are linked.
