Opposition leader Sussan Ley released a statement on the Bondi incident.

Australians are engulfed in sorrow tonight as a brutal act of violence has shaken the very core of a beloved community. Bondi, a cherished symbol of Australian life, has been struck by a tragedy that has left the nation reeling.

Expressing her condolences, an official remarked, “Australians are in deep mourning tonight, with hateful violence striking at the heart of an iconic Australian community, a place we all know so well and love, Bondi.” This sentiment underscores the grief felt across the country as news of the incident spreads.

In the wake of this “significant loss of life,” the official, alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, has urged citizens to heed the guidance of law enforcement and relevant authorities. The advice aims to ensure public safety as the investigation continues.

The attack took place amidst the Chanukah by the Sea celebration, a gathering meant to symbolize peace and hope. The event, attended by the Jewish community, was tragically marred by an act of hatred, leaving a deep wound in the hearts of those celebrating.

“My heart is with Australia’s Jewish community tonight, particularly those in the eastern suburbs of Sydney — people I know so well,” the official added, highlighting the personal connection and solidarity with those affected.

“Everyone deserves to be safe, and shooting violence like this is heartbreaking and terrifying,” she wrote on social media.
