The young woman tragically killed by a lightning strike on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast has been identified as 21-year-old Finley Bone.

Emergency services rushed to Cooroy Sporting Complex yesterday, where Bone received urgent medical attention for life-threatening injuries before being transported to Nambour Hospital. Critical care paramedics were on hand during the transfer.

Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.

Her mother, Donna, expressed her devastation, sharing that her daughter, an enthusiastic football player, had “her life taken away in a minute.”

“It’s hard to fathom such an event. We are incredibly grateful to the emergency teams who arrived swiftly and the emergency department at Nambour Hospital for their exceptional care,” Donna conveyed.

“We are a close-knit family and today we are spending time with Fin’s older brothers and sisters, nephews, aunties and uncles.”

Bone was a member of the Noosa Lions FQPL3 women’s team and also coached the under-12 and under-13 girls teams.

The club said they were devastated by the tragedy.
