“A 65-year-old inmate has received treatment in hospital following an assault at the Metropolitan Special Programs Centre, at Long Bay,” a Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said.
“At about 12.15pm on Tuesday, 6 June 2023 correctional officers initiated a medical response after the man was discovered with suspected head injuries.
“NSW Police were notified.
“Corrective Services NSW takes great care to determine appropriate security classifications and placements for inmates to maintain the safety and security of our prisons.”

The 65-year-old has also previously pleaded guilty to possessing child abuse material in 2006 and to supplying a year 12 boy with drugs in Parliament House.
He is currently awaiting sentencing after a jury in April found him guilty of 26 out of 28 charges of sexual offences against four underage boys he allegedly supplied drugs to over a decade, ending in 2003.
Orkopoulos was found not guilty on one count of supplying prohibited drugs and one count of doing an act to pervert the course of justice.
