New details have emerged about the final moments of a suspected underworld henchman who died in a hail of bullets in a Melbourne laneway yesterday.

Athan Boursinos was gunned down in broad daylight yesterday while leaving his family’s Wollert townhouse.

9News understands the 21-year-old got out of his BMW and challenged his killer to “do it” before he was shot in the side of the head.

It’s understood Boursinos was on the way to court on drug, weapon, theft and driving offences.

Neighbour Tanco Taneski’s bedroom is just metres from the alley where the deadly ambush took place.

“At least three to four [shots] first bum, bum, bum. Then at least another three and then the last two. At least eight, I think,” he told 9News.

“After that, screaming – probably his father came out and saw him on the ground.”

Boursinos’ father is a former police sergeant, but his son is believed to be a suspect in the shooting of gangland figure Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim in January.

But family say Boursinos was cleaning up his life, had turned to God and was ready to face his previous charges in court.

His brother told 9News this morning that Boursinos has the biggest heart and was the bravest person he knew.

Boursinos’ fiancee took to social media to express her heartache.

“I will never stop loving you,” she wrote.

“You’re the best person I have ever met with the best soul.

“I can’t wait to see and hold you again.”

Police are yet to confirm if a four-wheel-drive found torched in Reservoir was used as a getaway car by Boursino’s killer.

Overnight, a Ford ute was torched on an empty block closer to the crime scene.

It is not believed to be linked to the 21-year-old’s murder.
