Young people taking part in Schoolies celebrations in have been praised by police for their good behaviour, but new figures show there have been more arrests than this time last year.
Since the weekend, 24 participants have been arrested and charged with a range of criminal offences, including drug possession.
That number is triple the amount from the same time as last year’s school leavers celebrations.
However. this year there were an extra 10,000 school leavers attending after the scrapping of pandemic restrictions.

Meanwhile, some Gold Coast residents are also upset about the amount of rubbish left by young people.
There was a huge mess left on one street in Surfers Paradise.
Schoolies began in Surfers Paradise last Saturday, with more than 20,000 teenagers expected to take part in the first week of festivities.
