A man has killed his partner before taking his own life in a remote part of South Australia, according to local police.

The bodies of the 47-year-old man and a woman aged 41, who police say had one or more children, were found in a house in Bordertown, near the Victorian border, last night.

Relatives had contacted police after they couldn’t get in touch with the couple.

Officers found the two bodies when they went to the home at 11pm yesterday.

They say the two people had died that day.

“Police believe the man took his own life after murdering the woman,” South Australia Police acting Assistant Commissioner Cath Hilliard said.

Hilliard said police knew the man from a previous domestic violence incident this year.

“However, there were no current court-imposed restrictions in relation to the individuals preventing any contact between them,” she said.

Detectives are investigating the deaths but are not looking for anyone else.
