Woman Faces Charges for Fire that Seriously Harmed Two Young Girls

A woman has been charged with attempted murder after a Melbourne house fire in May left two young girls fighting for their lives.

The blaze broke out in a two-storey home on Terrigal Street at about 9.40pm on Wednesday, May 21.

A 37-year-old woman and two girls, aged seven and eight at the time of the incident, were found unconscious inside the home.

They were taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A fourth occupant, a 36-year-old man, was not home at the time of the fire.

It was believed a gas cylinder may have exploded to start the fire.

Yesterday, a 37-year-old woman was arrested and has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.

She was remanded in custody and will appear in court today.
