Woman vanishes from Melbourne home without any possessions: Concerns raised

Police are growing increasingly concerned for the wellbeing of a Melbourne woman who has been missing for almost a month.

Debbra McKenzie was last seen leaving a home she’d been living at on Springfield Crescent in Hampton Park on 17 December.

The 41-year-old does not own a phone and left the home without any personal belongings, police said.

“She doesn’t have her bank card, she doesn’t have any keys… as previously stated she doesn’t own a mobile phone… she didn’t take a bag,” detective senior sergeant Jarrod Dwyer said.

Police are concerned for McKenzie’s welfare after she missed a scheduled appointment for regular medication and has not accessed any money from her bank account.

The Missing Persons Squad is assisting local detectives with the search for McKenzie, who was reported missing by her romantic partner on New Year’s Eve.

She is known to frequent the Doveton, Dandenong and Hampton Park areas, and has connections to people in New South Wales, but police have been unable to establish a reason for her disappearance.

NSW Police have also been unsuccessful in tracking down any information about McKenzie’s whereabouts.

At this stage, police do not believe she has met with foul play, but have growing concerns due to the amount of time she has been missing.

“This is the first time she’s gone missing, which elevates our concerns,” Dwyer said.

“The fact that she’s been missing for four weeks and we have been unable to identify anybody that’s seen her in that period of time concerns us greatly.”

Dwyer said a lack of digital footprint has forced police to rely on word of mouth and public assistance to assist in their investigation.

Vision of McKenzie walking along Springfield Crescent in Hampton Park on December 17 and walking near Dandenong Plaza the day before has been released to assist police.

She is described as about 175cm tall, with a slim build and black, shoulder-length hair.

She was last seen wearing black leggings and a white striped top.

Anyone who sees Debbra is urged to call Triple Zero (000) or with information about her whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
