Inter Miami’s Huge Yearly Offer To Lionel Messi Revealed By Report

The details of a huge offer made to Lionel Messi by Inter Miami have been revealed in a report by SPORT.

Messi’s future is up in the air, with an announcement yet to be made on where he will continue his career once his Paris Saint Germain contract expires on June 30.

The Argentine is linked with a return to former club FC Barcelona, but they are having problems getting the green light for a viability plan which proves to La Liga a deal can work economically and navigate Financial Fair Play.

Lurking in the background with an astronomical pay packet is Al-Hilal. Last month, El Chiringuito reported that Messi had accepted a €350 million ($374.2 million) a year offer from them which has been denied by both the club to Mundo Deportivo and by Messi’s father and agent Jorge in a statement.

Perhaps unable to battle the financial might of the Saudis alone, Barca were reported by L’Equipe as teaming up with Inter Miami to thwart Al-Hilal’s plot to land the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

The coup would have entailed Inter Miami first signing Messi themselves and then loaning him out to Barca for anything from six to 18 months.

Sources that spoke to SPORT have ruled this possibility out, however, and the Catalan daily newspaper has provided further information on the considerable concrete effort that the David Beckham owned-American franchise has tabled to Messi.

Granted the proposal falls someway short of what Al-Hilal can provide, and would also see Messi struggle to knock Cristiano Ronaldo from the top of Forbes’ list of the World’s Highest-Paid Athletes. But it is still an impressive €50 million ($53.5 million) per season for four years that would take Messi to his 40th birthday a much richer man, and double the €25 million ($27.5 million) a term Barca can afford according to SPORT.

Linking up with close friend Sergio Busquets, who will leave Barca in a few weeks’ time, might also be possible in Florida.

Wherever he ends up, though, Messi is expected to make a decision on his next stop in an imminent fashion so as to avoid living a soap opera-like transfer saga over the summer.
