Share and Follow

Electronic Arts stock (NASDAQ
NDAQ
: EA) is down 6% in a month, underperforming the broader markets, with the S&P 500 index up 9%. This can be attributed to the company’s recently announced downbeat Q3 results. The company reported total bookings of $2.3 billion, down 9% y-o-y, slightly below the $2.5 billion consensus estimate. Although the company saw continued growth in its live services offerings, Mobile segment revenue was lower than anticipated. In fact, the company has decided to shut down mobile versions of its two popular games – Apex Legends and Battlefield. The bottom line came in at $2.80 (adjusted) vs. $3.02 in the prior-year quarter and well below the $3.04 consensus estimate.

Furthermore, Electronic Arts
EA
has cut its full-fiscal 2023 guidance. It now expects sales to be between $7.25 and $7.35 billion, compared to its prior estimate of $7.55 to $7.75 billion. Similarly, it cut its earnings forecast to now be in the range of $5.84 to $6.10, vs. its prior range of $6.95 to $7.25. This is partly attributed to the company’s decision to push the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to the end of April. The downbeat results and guidance didn’t sit well with the investors, evident from a 10% drop in share price in the last five days.
