It feels as though there’s always a new pregnancy announcement in Hollywood, but not every celebrity wants to have kids. There are plenty of reasons not to have kids, from not wanting the commitment to being too career-focused. Plus, raising kids in the spotlight comes with its own set of difficulties. Here are 16 celebrities who’ve openly discussed their choice not to have kids.
16/16 Jennifer Aniston
After years of speculation, the actress opened up about her fertility in November 2022. She revealed that she did want kids and was actively trying to get pregnant at one point in her life. But when she was unsuccessful, Jennifer says she decided she wouldn’t have children, implying she wouldn’t look at other options.
15/16 Miley Cyrus
While still married to Liam Hemsworth, the singer said she didn’t want children due to the environmental impact it would have. “We’re getting handed a piece-of-s–t planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child,” she said in July 2019. “Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I’m not bringing in another person to deal with that.

Seth has spoken about his and his wife Lauren Miller’s decision not to have kids, saying they enjoy their lifestyle too much.
“I don’t know anyone who gets as much happiness out of their kids as we get out of our non-kids,” the actor said in 2021. “Like, [my wife, Lauren Miller, and I] are f–king psyched all the time! We’re laying in bed on Saturday mornings smoking weed, watching movies naked. If we had kids, we could not be f–king doing this.”

The Big Little Lies star revealed in March 2022 that she may never have children. “I don’t feel pressured to have kids by a certain time, if I ever have kids,” she explained, adding that she’s decided not to freeze her eggs.

The singer says that seeing her siblings have children has confirmed her decision not to have any of her own. “I don’t want to go through that. I like my freedom to go and move and do what I want to do. I don’t want to have to tend to someone all the time,” she said in March 2022.

The GLOW actress has said she and husband Dave Franco don’t plan to have children. In 2018, she said she “didn’t really want to have kids,” adding, “I think about how much [Dave and I] are involved in our cats’ lives. Oh, my God, if it was a child!”

In her 2011 memoir, the actress opened up about her decision to not have children, writing, “I do not need to go making ‘my own’ babies when there are so many orphaned or abandoned children who need love, attention, time and care.

The professional wrestler has admitted he focuses too much on his career to have kids. “It’s hard work to balance the time I need to run myself correctly,” he said in January 2022, adding, You have to have passion for [parenting]. You have to have fuel for it.”
His desire not to have children reportedly fueled his break-up with Nicki Bella, whom he was engaged to until 2018. They’ve since gone on to marry other people.

8/16 Chelsea Handler
In 2018, the comedian revealed she is “just not interested” in being a parent, saying it’s something she’s never had a strong yearn for.
“I just don’t think it’s the best use of my time,” Chelsea explained. “Becoming a mother is something that I take so seriously. People need to really want to become a mom.”
7/16 Ellen DeGeneres & Portia De Rossi
They’ve been together for over a decade, but Ellen and Portia have never expressed a desire in having kids. In 2015, Ellen said she never felt she could handle the commitment of parenthood.
“It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with. And I just don’t know if I can — it’s too risky. Like, what if I don’t like the kid? What if it turns out that it’s not as cute as I wanted, or as talented?” the talk show host shared.

The Fleetwood Mac singer has said she couldn’t have had the career she did if she had children (and she’s been open about her decision to have an abortion, too).
“It’s like, Do you want to be an artist and a writer, or a wife and a lover? With kids, your focus changes. I don’t want to go to PTA meetings,” Stevie said to InStyle.

In 2018, the American Horror Story star admitted she didn’t want to be torn between her career and a child, so she chose not to have kids.
“I don’t want to look at my child and say, ‘You’re the most extraordinary thing that ever happened to me, but also the death knell,’” she said. “It’s selfish, but I think the word selfish gets a bad rap.”

The John Wick actor has shut down speculation that he’ll become a father one day. “I’m 52. I’m not going to have any kids,” he told Esquire years ago.

The famous country singer says she chose not to have kids so she could focus on her career. “Since I had no kids and my husband was pretty independent, I had freedom,” she explained. “So I think a big part of my whole success is the fact that I was free to work.”
2/16 Oprah Winfrey
The legendary talk show host is known for her charitable actions, but she doesn’t have children of her own. However, she says it was a conscious choice. Oprah has said, “I have not had one regret about that. I also believe that part of the reason why I don’t have regrets is because I got to fulfill it in the way that was best for me: the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.”
