Amy Schumer has opened up about removing photos of herself from before her weight loss journey from her social media accounts.
Addressing the ongoing discussion surrounding her decision, Schumer, 44, clarified in an Instagram post on Wednesday, November 12, that her actions were not due to any embarrassment about her past appearance. “I didn’t delete my old photos because they were pre-weight loss,” she stated.
Schumer expressed pride in her appearance at all stages of her life. “I’ve always been proud of how I’ve looked,” she shared. “My focus has been on becoming pain-free, and I’m thrilled to say I’ve achieved that.” She went on to explain that improvements in her health, such as relief from endometriosis and a healing back, along with overcoming Cushing syndrome, have contributed to her well-being. “I’m grateful to be strong and healthy, especially for my son,” she added.
The comedian emphasized that social media does not define one’s identity but rather serves as a platform to present what one wants to share with the world. She enjoys posting images that capture her feeling “strong and beautiful” to engage with her audience.
“I didn’t purposely go on a ‘weight loss journey’ that’s a fine thing to go on. But my focus has been on health,” she explained. “I’m sure my weight will always fluctuate. I’m a perimenopausal woman on hrt meds. Wishing you strength and self love on whatever path you’re on as long as it’s kind and respectful to all people. No matter their weight race or religion peace!”
One day prior, Schumer posted a series of pics posing in a red Maison Valentino dress that showed her slim figure.
“I actually left my house tonight. Who’s proud?” she wrote in the caption. “I’m feeling good and happy. Deleted my old pics for no reason!”
Famous pals hyped her up in the comments section, including Kathy Hilton, Uzo Aduba and Leslie Mann, all of whom dropped fire emojis on the post.
Schumer has been candid through the years about her body, detailing her experience with the FDA-approved GLP-1 drug Mounjaro via Instagram in March.
“Three years ago, I tried [semaglutide drug] Wegovy,” she said at the time. “I was puking, I couldn’t handle it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula, whatever. But anyway, I went on this telehealth meeting with [virtual care clinic] Midi Health, and it was cheap. I wanted to try it myself ’cause I wanted to recommend it to my friends who are nurses and teachers.”
Schumer continued, “They put me on estrogen and progesterone because I realized I was in perimenopause and my symptoms from being perimenopause have disappeared. My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, I want to get down more, if you know what I mean. I’m talking about sex. So, that’s been great and Mounjaro’s been great.”
In recent months, Schumer has shown off her transformation — and her trim legs — online. She reacted to praise from social media users in October after posing in a short Miu Miu button-down shirt dress during a trip to Las Vegas alongside producer Alex Saks and Kinda Pregnant costar Jillian Bell.
“Loving the love. My legs thank you!” she wrote at the time. She joked about the attention on her leggy look in a separate Instagram Story, teasing, “Don’t call it a comeback.”
