Cameron Diaz

Interviews can get extremely awkward, very fast. Oprah is a prime example, as she avoided David Letterman for years after their awkward encounter. That was far from the only awkward occurrence for Oprah, she almost walked out of her interview with Lindsay Lohan when her guest wouldn’t comply with the producers behind the scenes.

However, we’ve seen the other side of it as well, with guests completely leaving an interview. Gene Simmons’ wife Shannon Tweed completely walked off the set when her husband made an awkward remark. Turns out, Cameron Diaz wasn’t pleased either during her radio interview, and decided to end things early.

We’ll take a look at how it all went down and how a remark made about Drew Barrymore prompted to cut the interview extremely short. As if things weren’t awkward enough, the host refused to take any heat for his remark.

Cameron Diaz And Drew Barrymore Have A Very Close Friendship

Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore have a friendship that dates back to their younger days, starting off in Hollywood. However, both would agree that things really started to click during their time together in Charlie’s Angels.

Diaz discussed the film launching their friendship, “I feel like we were always moving towards it from the minute we met,” Cameron said, “and it was just like not apparent until ‘Charlie’s Angels’ when we were in the thick of it together, where we were just like, ‘This works.'”

Drew Barrymore showed the same love, claiming she would always be there for her old friend, no matter what the circumstances.

“If anyone needs to be broken out of somewhere in the middle of the night in a very upsettingly remote location, this is your girl …., you will show up,” to which Cameron replied, “Thanks, Poops. Takes one to know one. We’re lifers,” she said on her show, The Drew Barrymore Show.

Given this close relationship, it only makes sense that Diaz didn’t take very kindly to some harsh words said about her best friend’s past.

The Radio Interview Went Off The Rails When The Host Brought Up Drew Barrymore’s Past Addiction Issues

The interview started off completely fine and with lots of laughter, however, things would ultimately take a turn for the worst. The hot topic of the interview was Diaz’s latest film at the time alongside Jason Segal. However, bringing up how a character reminded the host Kyle Sandilands, of Drew Barrymore, made things turn in the wrong direction.

He said, “Let’s hope she misses out on the Drew Barrymore drug years, because those were a great thing to watch, but not so good to be in, I’d imagine.”

From then on, things got awkward, and the host tried to walk back on the prior statement.

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” he said.

Diaz clearly wasn’t content with the statement and fired back at Kyle, saying “I’m sure, Kyle, you’ve never been through a drug phase, have you? Or alcoholism or anything like that? Pretty clean… always did it right? Congratulations.”

At that point, the conversation was over, despite the fact that the hosts tried mentioning Segel’s weight loss for the film. It was all done at that point, as Diaz’s team would decide to end the interview stating, “We have to go now…. sorry, they’re wrapping us up.”

The Radio Host Seemed To Be Unapologetic About The Incident

Jackie O, the co-host on the show was clear to acknowledge where things went completely wrong during the interview.

She said, “Good one, Kyle,” she said. “You ruined that interview… you brought up Drew Barrymore, her best friend’s drug addiction in the past. She’s her best friend! And then you brought up Benji. We all know how protective Cameron is about her private life.”

Things only got worse when Kyle mentioned Cameron’s personal life. He said, “Hang on a second, but I’m friends with Benji [Madden],” talking about her husband.

Making matters worse, Sandilands showed little sympathy for the way things went.

“Maybe, they should’ve just bought ads if they wanted to sell the movie,” he said reflecting on the interview alongside Diaz.

We assume Diaz wouldn’t return to the KIIS 106.5’s Kyle & Jackie O show, following her experience.
