For more than a decade, Keeping Up with the Kardashians gave fans the opportunity to learn more about the lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family. With over 20 seasons, this reality show soon became a fan favorite. In fact, despite the negative reviews from the critics, KUWTK maintained high viewership ratings during its almost fourteen years on the air. This is how it became one of E! cable network’s most successful and award-winning shows of all time.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians was not only one of the longest-running reality television series in the US but also one of the most controversial shows ever. Throughout the show’s 20 seasons, the Kardashian-Jenners found themselves in the middle of many scandals. As if it wasn’t enough, these reality TV stars were accused of staging some of the most iconic scenes in their show, including an episode in which they apparently pretended to get drunk on sparkling water.
A Restaurant Owner Revealed That The KUWTK Scene Where the Sisters Get Drunk on Champaign in a Restaurant Was Stagged
There have been many iconic scenes in Keeping Up with the Kardashians, like when Kim Kardashian lost her diamond earring in the ocean. But it seems that not all of these scenes were as real as the show wants to make us believe. While it has been revealed that the Kardashian-Jenner clan would spend between 10 and 12 hours filming their show, not all of it was real. After all, KUWTK was a reality television show and those aren’t exactly known for always showing the truth.
On a Reddit thread where people who worked on or appeared in reality TV shows revealed how fake or staged certain parts of the shows were, user u/FlipSide13 revealed that Keeping Up with the Kardashians staged a scene where the sisters supposedly got drunk on champagne in a restaurant.
“The Kardashians filmed their reality show in my restaurant. For this particular episode, they were getting kind of ‘drunk’ on champagne. However, the producers told the staff to pour sparkling water into champagne flutes, which they then proceeded to get ‘drunk’ off of,” the Reddit user and restaurant owner revealed. “Nobody actually drank any alcohol.”
While fans got a glimpse of what the Kardashian-Jenners’ life is really like, they also got plenty of scripted scenes with this show. It makes sense. After all, we all know that everyday life is not always so entertaining, not even when you’re a big celebrity.
The Champagne Episode Wasn’t the Only Time the Kardashians Were Accused of Staging Certain Scenes for Their Show
Apparently, the champagne episode wasn’t the only time when the producers of Keeping Up with the Kardashians decided to stage certain scenes to boost the show’s ratings. Over the almost fourteen years in which the show was on the air, the Kardashian-Jenners were accused of staging many iconic moments on their show, below are some of the most memorable examples.
In an episode of KUWTK, Kris Jenner hired a nanny for Kendall and Kylie, who just seemed like a terrible choice for the job. During the episode, the nanny was caught smoking and lounging by the pool on the job rather than looking after the kids she was hired to babysit. After this episode aired, fans noted that Kendall and Kylie’s nanny was Bree Olson, a former adult actress and Charlie Sheen’s ex-girlfriend. Of course, fans think this was staged, as Olson had a successful career, and it seemed unlikely that she had suddenly decided to work as a nanny.
Another episode of the show that fans suspect was staged was Kanye West’s marriage proposal to Kim Kardashian. Fans noticed that in a 2014 episode titled “A Surprise Engagement Pt. 1,” Kim can be seen wearing her 15-carat engagement ring, although Kanye hadn’t proposed to her yet, as that proposal is shown in the following episode.
Finally, fans also believe that one of the most memorable scenes of KUWTK was also staged. In an early episode of the show, the Kardashian-Jenners go to Bora Bora along with Kim’s then-husband Kris Humphries. During the episode, Kris playfully throws Kim into the sea, and when she emerges from the water, Kim loses it because she’s lost her diamond earring.
Ultimately, one of Kim’s younger sisters found the earring near where the group had been swimming in the ocean. And Kris Humphries pointed out how unbelievable it was that the earring was found so easily. And fans couldn’t agree more. Many believe this was clearly staged.
Is The Kardashians’ New Show Also Stagged?
Now that Keeping Up with the Kardashians has come to an end, the Kardashian-Jenner clan moved to Hulu for a new show called The Kardashians. While one of the earliest clips that Hulu claimed that “All the walls will be shattered” in this new show, fans think it’s clear that many parts of the show are stagged.
Many fans have noticed that there are numerous continuity errors in the new show, which point out the fact that many scenes on the show were reshot. Plus, there’s a running Reddit thread of “The Kardashians” plots that fans think are fake, including the Roblox scene with Saint West.
