Eamonn Holmes has lashed out at Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby after the pair appeared to turn up “drunk” on This Morning.

The duo became well known for presenting their hit morning TV show the day after the National Television Awards. In a social media look back on the clip, This Morning said they presented “without having gone to bed”.

Holmes, a former ITV presenter who now hosts on GB News, spoke to Dan Wootton on Tuesday night. It came after Phillip Schofield sensationally quit ITV and This Morning earlier in the week.

The decision followed Schofield’s revelation that he had an affair with a younger male colleague while he was still married to his wife. He called the relationship “unwise but not illegal”.

Holmes last night (May 30) spoke about a number of aspects of life surrounding This Morning as well as his thoughts on members of the Royal Family and his concerns about 5G.

He said: “They are allowed to turn up the next day advocating the use of drink or something else, I don’t know, and sit on a couch ‘I’m so drunk, I haven’t been to bed’ whatever, whatever.

“Yet ITV at this time, with the legacy of Ant McPartlin, who was in a driving accident where people were injured and he was under the influence of drink. Yet they can promote that.”

McPartlin was fined £86,000 in the courts following his drink-driving arrest in 2018. He was banned from the roads for more than 20 months.

After the incident, Declan Donnelly presented two episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway solo. Willougby stepped in to co-host I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Holmes described the treatment the pair got compared to McPartlin as “rules for one, rules for the other”.

He added: “So they come in the next day doing their drunk act. It’s either an act in which case it’s false, or they are drunk in which case it should not be allowed.”
