WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT GHOSTS SEASON 6! The conclusion of Ghosts season 5 left viewers on the edge of their seats as they witnessed the mysterious disappearance of traveling ghost Pete, played by Richie Moriarty. His absence, caused by straying too far from Woodstone, has sparked curiosity among fans. Showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman are now hinting at what the upcoming Halloween special might reveal about Pete’s vanishing act.

Despite the unsettling fate of Pete, the finale brought a silver lining for Sam, portrayed by Rose McIver. She received the exciting news that her Hollywood screenplay, Polar Opposites, had been sold, securing her role as the head writer for its sequels. This development was a much-needed triumph for Sam and her husband, Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who faced numerous challenges throughout season 5.

For the first time since its 2021 debut, Ghosts will return in midseason for its sixth outing. However, fans eager to learn Pete’s fate won’t have to wait until 2027. The story will continue with special hour-long Halloween and Christmas episodes, slated to air in 2026, allowing viewers to dive back into the supernatural happenings at Woodstone right after the season 5 cliffhanger.

For the first time since it debuted in 2021, Ghosts will premiere in midseason for season 6, but fans won’t have to wait until 2027 to get answers about Pete. This is because there will be hour-long Ghosts Halloween and Christmas specials, which will air in 2026, and pick up after the events of the season 5 finale.

Although Ghosts fans were left hanging after the shocking season 5 finale, Wiseman and Port promise that they won’t have to wait too long for an answer about Pete. In an interview with TV Insider, Wiseman said, “[Fans] will not have to wait. We’re gonna deal with [it].”

Port added, “We’re gonna pick up a couple of months after the finale took place. That’s where we’ll start, and we’re gonna go from there.” Hopefully, this means that Pete’s fate will be addressed in the Halloween episode. It’ll be intriguing to see what happened to him, and whether he can come back from this frightening ordeal.

Ghosts’ Midseason Move Isn’t As Bad As It Seems

While Ghosts fans were disappointed to hear that it was moved to midseason for the 2026-2027 TV season, Wiseman explained that it’s not as bad as it seems. He said, “I know it was couched as midseason, but with these specials that are going to be an hour long, we’re basically just premiering two weeks later than we normally would.” Two hour-long specials are equal to four episodes of Ghosts, so Wiseman’s logic makes a lot of sense.

Ghosts Will Be Replaced By Another Series From Its Showrunners

In the fall, Ghosts’ timeslot (Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET) will be filled by Port and Wiseman’s new series, Eternally Yours. The comedy show is about a family of vampires and humans in their lives. Eternally Yours stars Ed Weeks, Allegra Edwards, Helen J. Shen, Jaren Lewison, Parker Young, Rose Abdoo, Tristan Michael Brown, and Shylo Molina.

Ghosts’ shift to midseason was disappointing for fans, but Wiseman’s assertion that it’s not really much of a delay due to the Halloween and Christmas specials makes so much sense. The Halloween and Christmas specials have been thrilling in past seasons, including season 5, which introduced the mummy, Amunhotep (Farhang Ghajar), during Halloween, and saw Carol (Caroline Aaron), Pete’s wife, ascend to Heaven, (or get “sucked off,” as the ghosts say), during its Christmas special. One thing is certain: Ghosts season 6 will be worth the wait.
