There’s a lot to love about Britney Spears, even as fans have been nervous for and even judgmental of her in recent years. She’s been through a lot, and she’s definitely changed from the bubblegum popstar that she first premiered as. In a lot of ways, that’s a good thing, though fans sometimes miss the ‘old’ Britney.
In one recently resurfaced interview clip, fans fawned over how funny, relatable, and meme-worthy Britney was while chatting with Ryan Seacrest and will.i.am. The topic was relationships, and while fans aren’t sure Ryan Seacrest is ever going to get married, he revealed some details about his dating life that apparently shocked Britney.
Fans Applauded Britney When She Had This Reaction During An Interview
Fans celebrated Britney when footage of an old interview featuring her and Ryan Seacrest resurfaced online.
In the iHeart interview, which appears to take place in a recording studio, Britney sits between Ryan and will.i.am while the three chat. They were talking about relationships and the use of cologne as a way to attract their partners.
Ryan says, “I spray girls’ cologne on my pillows to make me think they’re there.” Britney’s eyes widened, and she immediately turned toward will.i.am and mouthed “girl.”
Britney’s face at that moment made fans think she’d just had a huge realization about Ryan and his dating preferences.
To put it simply, fans interpreted Spears’ reaction was because she didn’t realize Seacrest wasn’t gay. They thought that Britney’s expression and repeating “girl” suggested she thought Ryan was telling stories about his past boyfriends.
One fan laughed that it was fun “watching the gears turn in her head,” while another quipped, “I was confused watching this video because I forgot he wasn’t gay.”
Other fans said it was “relatable” and praised Britney’s “genuine” reaction, while some guffawed themselves over ‘forgetting’ Ryan isn’t gay.
The situation was hilarious to watch back, and the best part, according to fans, is how authentic Britney seemed despite her confusion. She wasn’t trying to look a certain way or come across a certain way, and fans praised her for it.
Of course, all the commenters who thought Spears’ confused face was adorable might be misinterpreting things. Since Ryan used the word “cologne” instead of “perfume” (the traditionally feminine word for scented body spray for women, in the US), it’s possible that threw Britney off.
Maybe she was questioning his word choice, rather than his orientation… Either way, the joy the video clip brought Britney’s fans is priceless.

Fans Miss Seeing Britney In Interviews
Given her troubled past, largely thanks to the conservatorship that controlled much of her life for years, fans were happy to see an old clip of what seemed like a fairly happy Britney Spears.
Britney seems to shy away from live interviews these days, and though she claimed she was offered a chance to sit down and share her story (for money), she said she declined it.
That hasn’t stopped Britney from posting on Instagram often, sharing everything from inspirational memes to dance videos to content of herself in various states of undress. She occasionally shuts down her socials, too, pausing her Instagram for days—or longer—at a time.
Looking back to an interview from yesteryear was bittersweet for fans who have followed Britney since she rose to fame. In fans’ words, that clip highlights why so many people loved her from day one.
Who Is Ryan Seacrest Actually Dating?
The throwback moment when Britney gasped over Ryan’s dating history might have happened at a time when no one really knew who he was dating. Some of his longer relationships involved “breaks” where he dated other people.
And, in what might be surprising to some, all of his reported former partners were women.
These days, Ryan Seacrest’s dating history is a bit more public. In fact, Us Magazine even documented an “ex” who he’d been on “a few dates” with. He was also with Julianne Hough ages ago, dating her for three years before they broke up in 2013.
Though he once went on a date with Teri Hatcher (nothing came of it), Ryan tends to date women who are less famous than him. As of June 2021, Us Magazine stated that Ryan was dating a model named Aubrey Paige quite happily.
As for Britney, she tied the knot with Sam Asghari after dating since 2016. There’s no word on whether she’s close with Ryan Seacrest these days, but it seems unlikely that they would have formed a friendship during that uncomfortable interview.
