‘Friends’ cast teams up for special tribute to co-star Matthew Perry two years after his death

Two years after the untimely passing of Matthew Perry, his fellow “Friends” cast members have come together to pay tribute to their beloved co-star. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow united for a charity event organized in collaboration with the Matthew Perry Foundation.

Photos shared on the foundation’s official Instagram account on Friday captured the poignant moment as each actor signed a unique piece of artwork commissioned for the occasion. These pieces are part of a fundraiser aimed at honoring Perry’s memory and supporting the causes he was passionate about.

The artwork initiative, led by artist Tim Wakefield and in partnership with Soundwaves Art, offers a special collection for the holiday season. As described in the Instagram caption, “Tim has transformed the actual soundwaves of the ‘Friends’ theme song into these beautiful designs, each inspired by a different character.” Notably, each cast member has autographed a limited edition of these artworks, making them truly one-of-a-kind.

This heartfelt tribute not only celebrates the enduring legacy of both Matthew Perry and the iconic show but also brings together the “Friends” cast in a meaningful way, underscoring the deep bond they continue to share.

“Tim has transformed the actual soundwaves of the ‘Friends’ theme song into these beautiful designs each inspired by a different character, and each cast member has autographed their own small run of artworks,” the post continued.

In collaboration with Perry’s estate, the foundation has produced a limited collection of artworks embossed with the “17 Again” star’s official signature.

The signed prints are currently being sold for $600 while unsigned ones are going for $100, according to the Soundwaves Art Foundation’s site.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward Perry’s organization, which aims to help those struggling with addiction, as well as other charities chosen by the cast.

Perry was found dead at his home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles in October 2023. He was 54.

The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office later cited his cause of death as an accident from acute effects of ketamine.

Perry had previously opened up about using ketamine to treat his depression. However, in the month leading up to his death, he was abusing the drug.

Perry’s “Friends” castmates apparently tried to help the actor with his addiction struggles before his passing, according to Aniston.

The “Morning Show” star told Vanity Fair in August that she and their cast “did everything [they] could” for Perry.

“It almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight,” Aniston, 56, explained.

“As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better,” she confessed, noting that she’s “glad” her friend is “out of that pain.”
