Billie Eilish Has Never Been Afraid To Take On The Media- Here's The Truth About Her Biggest Press Feuds
Share and Follow

From the moment that Billie Eilish first rose to fame as a teenager, she has managed to remain one of the most talked about people in the music business. In many cases, it has been a wonderful thing that so many people are interested in Eilish as that has allowed her to become rich and famous.

On the other hand, there is no doubt that the spotlight Eilish has been under has been very harsh at times. Eilish seems to get judged for virtually everything she does, including things as silly as how much she does or doesn’t smile.

Given the way that Eilish gets treated by members of the press and by people on social media, it is all the more impressive that she has stuck up for herself so many times.

When most people talk about the times that Billie Eilish has called out the media, they think of issues that revolved around her. While this article will prove that Eilish has often spoken out about things that relate to her, that isn’t the case every time.

A perfect example of that stems from the time that Eilish was interviewed by The Guardian in 2021.

Given how much the media has obsessed over Eilish’s fashion choices, it isn’t surprising that the topic came up during the interview. The really interesting thing, however, is that Eilish immediately transitioned into talking about how the media tricks so many people into thinking they have to look perfect.

“Since I was a kid, my dad and I have always talked about a certain type of person who’s so insecure, or hyperaware and self-conscious, that they never move in a weird way, or make a weird face, because they always want to look good.”

Eilish continued, “I’ve noticed that, and it makes me so sad. If you’re always standing a certain way, walking in a certain way, and always have your hair just so… It’s such a loss to always try to always look good. It’s such a loss of joy and freedom in your body.”

5 Why Billie Eilish Called Out Bozos For Judging Hers Looks

Just like Billie Eilish has advocated for other people to be able to express themselves with the way they look, she has many fans who want that for her. On the other hand, the sad truth is that there also are far too many people who use social media to try to tell Eilish what she has to look like.

After crafting an image for herself early on in her career, Eilish surprised many by changing the way she looks. Since then, so many people have called Eilish a sell-out on social media because of her new image that she called them out in May 2023 in a series of since-deleted Instagram stories.

“I spent the first 5 years of my career getting absolutely OBLITERATED by you fools for being boy ish and dressing how I did & constantly being told I’d be hotter if I acted like a woman. And now when I feel comfortable enough to wear anything remotely feminine or fitting, I CHANGED and am a sellout.. and ‘what happened to her’ oMg iT’s nOt thE sAmE biLlie she’s just like the rest bla blah.”

Elish continued, “you guys are true idiots. LOL i can be BOTH you f***ing bozos LET WOMEN EXIST: :))))” Eilish later followed that up with another biting post. “FUN FACT! did you know that women are multifaceted!!!!!??? shocking right?? believe it or not women can be interested in multiple things”

When Billie Eilish decided to delete her Instagram stories about women being multifaceted, she didn’t release a statement explaining why. That said, it seems extremely safe to assume that Eilish deleted those posts to avoid dealing with getting flack for what she wrote on social media.

The reason that almost certainly is the case is Eilish spoke about how toxic social media was in her life several years earlier. In February 2020, Eilish was asked if she reads social media comments during an interview with the BBC.

In response to that question, Eilish revealed that she decided to completely stop reading social media posts about her. While that seems like a healthy decision, Eilish then went on to reveal the sad truth about what it is like to be famous in the modern media landscape.

“I stopped like two days ago. Literally two days ago. I stopped reading comments fully. Because it was ruining my life. Once again.”

3 Why Billie Eilish Had To Stick Up For Drake

Since Billie Eilish has been so successful, she has gotten the chance to do a long list of truly incredible things. One unique example of that is Vanity Fair has interviewed the star singer annually for several years which has chronicled how she has grown.

Since it has been fascinating to see how differently Eilish answers the same questions each year, many fans look forward to each interview getting released. On the other hand, one of Eilish’s peers likely isn’t a fan of the series of interviews she has taken part in.

When Eilish took part in the Vanity Fair interview when she was 17 years old, she revealed that Drake texted her to say he liked her music. In response, many people online labeled it “creepy” that Drake who very much was an adult at the time would text a minor.

In 2020, Eilish addressed people labeling Drake “creepy” for texting her during an interview with Vogue.

“The internet is such a stupid-ass mess right now. Everybody’s so sensitive. A grown man can’t be a fan of an artist? There are so many people that the internet should be more worried about. Like, you’re really going to say that Drake is creepy because he’s a fan of mine, and then you’re going to go vote for Trump?

From the moment that Billie Eilish became famous, she has had a very distinctive style even though her look has changed over the years. As a result, it is pretty easy for fans to convincingly dress up like Eilish.

Sadly for Eilish and her fans, some bad-faith actors have used the singer’s distinctive style to trick people who love her. After images of people dressing up like Eilish and tricking her fans into thinking they are the singer surfaced in the media, the actual performer called the pranksters out.

Yet again opting to express her frustration in Instagram stories, Eilish pointed out why she believes people impersonating her are in the wrong.

“please stop doing this s**t. it is not safe for you and it is mean to the people who don’t know any better you make me look bad.”

1 Why Billie Eilish Called Out Jimmy Kimmel For Making Her Look Dumb

Probably the most obvious time that Billie Eilish called out a member of the media stems from an appearance she made on Jimmy Kimmel Live. When Kimmel interviewed Eilish in 2021, the singer asked him a very blunt question. “Do you remember last time I was here? And you made me look a little stupid.”

Eilish was referring to a time she was interviewed by Kimmel in 2019. During that previous interview, Kimmel asked Eilish if she knew who certain classic musical acts were with the joke being she wouldn’t because she was so young. In 2019, Eilish stated she didn’t know who Van Halen or Huey Lewis was.

After that 2019 clip aired, Eilish was harassed by many people online for being a musician who didn’t know who Van Halen was.

When Eilish went back on Kimmel in 2021, she decided to get back at Kimmel by putting him in the hot seat. Opting to flip the script on the talk show host, Eilish asked Kimmel if he knew who several young musicians were. That was younger viewers could mock him for being out of touch.
