Dating is hard enough for anyone, but it is especially difficult when your ex-wife mysteriously has disappeared and left you with your kids.


A FX production streaming on Hulu, Fleishman Is in Trouble, based on a best-selling novel by Taffy Brodesser-Akner. The author has adapted her own bestselling book with Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton, the duo behind movies like Little Miss Sunshine and Battle of the Sexes, directing multiple episodes of the series.

The show centers on 41-year-old Toby Fleishman, who is trying to get back into dating by is struggling with the modern etiquette of apps. He suddenly found himself single after marrying in medical school. Played by Jesse Eisenberg, this comedy/drama deals with the protagonist balancing dating in Manhattan, his hospital job and parenthood. Things get even more stressful when his ex-wife disappears, and he has to solve the mystery of her disappearance.

8/8 Jesse Eisenberg As Toby Fleishman In Fleishman Is In Trouble

Jesse Eisenberg is best known for playing Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, which earned him an Oscar nomination. He also played Lex Luthor in Batman vs Superman and starred in Now You See Me.

Though he’s had some guest starring roles on shows like Modern Family, Fleishman Is in Trouble is Eisenberg’s first major TV role since he made his on-screen acting debut in the TV series Get Real.

“It can be a relief to play something familiar, but it’s also exposing the things I’ve hidden in my own life — and here I am on television feeling those things in front of everybody,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

7/8 Claire Danes As Rachel Fleishman In Fleishman Is In Trouble

You may recognize Claire Danes for playing Carrie in Homeland, but the actress has been on the big and small screen since the 90s. Playing the ex-wife Rachel, Danes gained early recognition as Angela Chase in the 1994 teen drama series My So-Called Life which won her a Golden Globe.

She has had a thriving acting career which includes roles in 1994’s Little Women, Romeo + Juliet and Stardust. She is married to Hannibal actor Hugh Dancy, with whom she shares two children.

In 2012, Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. She has won three Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Award and the Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in Drama

6/8 Lizzy Caplan As Libby Epstein In Fleishman Is In Trouble

Although Lizzie Caplan is best known for playing Janice in Mean Girls, she has had one of the most eclectic careers of all the cast members.

Playing the narrator Libby Epstein, Caplan has previously worked with Eisenberg in Now You See Me 2, as well as having been in movies like Hot Tub Time Machine and The Interview.

Caplan played Virginia E. Johnson on the Showtime series Masters of Sex, a role for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy, two Satellite Awards, and a Critics’ Choice Award.

5/8 Christian Slater As Archer Sylvan In Fleishman Is In Trouble

Christian Slater appears in the show as Archer Sylvan, a Tom Wolfe-esque journalist who wrote an article that Fleishman connects with. He is also the object of Libby’s obsession.

Slater is an acting legend. He made his film debut in The Postman Always Rings Twice before playing a leading role in the 1985 film The Legend of Billie Jean. He gained international fame through playing a monk’s apprentice alongside Sean Connery in The Name of the Rose before becoming a worldwide heartthrob with his breakthrough role in the cult film Heathers.

Since the ’80s he has been a mainstay on both TV and film. He earned the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Mr. Robot, and was nominated two more times for the computer hacker.

4/8 Josh Radnor As Adam In Fleishman Is In Trouble

Josh Radnor plays Libby’s husband, Adam. Radnor is best known for playing Ted Mosby on the popular and Emmy Award–winning sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

He made his writing and directorial debut with the 2010 comedy-drama Happythankyoumoreplease, for which he won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. He also wrote and directed Liberal Arts as well as appeared in the Tony-nominated Broadway play Disgraced.

3/8 Adam Brody As Seth In Fleishman Is In Trouble

Adam Brody plays Seth in the new Hulu show. Brody is still probably best known for his time on the early 2000s show The OC.

He has since appeared in movies like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Promising Young Woman and Single Parents. The 42-year-old has been married to Leighton Meester since 2014 and have two children together.

“We just want to tell stories about ourselves regardless. I know the stats are changing, but still I’d say the majority of people seem to partner up,” Brody explained. Marriage has “all the highs and lows of life in there,” he added. “It’s the joy of love and creating wonderful people and all the potential heartbreak and misery that could come from that. They’re just inherently ripe for drama.”

2/8 J. Smith Cameron In Fleishman Is In Trouble

J. Smith-Cameron makes a short but memorable appearance in the show as Toby’s lawyer. She is best known for playing the legal counsel to Logan Roy in HBO’s Succession, a role she was Emmy nominated for. She also appeared in 2022’s Vengeance alongside BJ Novak.

Aside from her role in the HBO family drama, she appeared in Recitfy and movies like Margaret, Nancy and Harriet The Spy.

1/8 Maxim Swinton And Meara Mahoney Gross As Solly And Hannah Fleishman In Fleishman Is In Trouble

The younger cast has been almost as busy as the adults.

Maxim Jasper Swinton recently appeared on Netflix‘s Halston as a young Halston as well Raymond & Ray and TV movie Adopted. Meara Mahoney Gross starred in the Oscar-nominated political satire film Don’t Look Up.

Also starring in the new FX series is Ralph Adriel Johnson, Brian Miskell, Maxim Jasper Swinton, Michael Gaston, Meara Mahoney Gross and Joy Suprano.
