Reality television doesn’t hold back when it comes to bringing drama to the delight of viewers. This is why many have said drama is a key component in the genre. The cliffhangers and possible endings of relationships keep viewers wanting to come back for more. Some might speculate this drama is made up for ratings, but sometimes it’s clearly real.

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright’s relationship is a good example of this. Viewers watched their love evolve on shows like Vanderpump Rules and The Valley. There were cheating scandals, but they always seemed to come back to each other. Recently, though, things ended for good and Brittany filed for divorce. This is just one of many storylines featured in Season 2 of The Valley, and just one of the relationships coming to an end.

Jax And Brittany’s Divorce Was Teased In The Trailer For Season 2 Of The Valley

Fans were right to expect more drama for the second season of The Valley. When Bravo unveiled the trailer for the show’s second season in March, viewers got a taste of Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright’s divorce battle. “Jax has been seeing people,” Brittany said in the trailer. “He had a girl staying here at the house again last night.”

She goes on to tell fellow cast members Janet Caperna and Michelle Saniei, “There is a thong on my bathroom sink and it’s like, why was there a baby wipe on top of it?” Janet then unleashes a wild theory.

The trailer showed Jax being served the divorce papers, which Brittany said she warned him about previously. “I already told him: filing, restraining order and custody,” she said, referring to her desire for full custody of their son Cruz, who is three years old.

Jax is seen crying in the trailer, telling viewers in a confessional, “I’m just not satisfied with who I am anymore.” The divorce filing came in August, just six months after Jax and Brittany announced they were separating. The former couple were married four years. This was followed by Jax’s revelation that he was entering rehab to get treated for a cocaine addiction.

“He has people watching me,” Brittany can be heard alleging in the trailer as she is seen covering up. “I’m going through so much, my husband’s in rehab.”

Tom Schwartz also pops up in the trailer, as he and Jax reunite on camera after previously co-starring in Vanverpump Rules together. During their conversation, Jax reflected on his past. “I was a f****** terrible husband,” Jax told Tom. “Good father, I’m a great father. Terrible husband.”

Luke Proposed To Kristen In The Season 2 Trailer

Viewers also saw that it’s not just Jax and Brittany whose union is unraveling. The trailer also showed that Michelle and Jesse Lally’s marriage had come to an end as well. “Michelle admitted that she cheated on me,” Jesse said in the trailer. However, Michelle doesn’t respond well when Jesse confronts her about it. She throws water in his face when he tries speaking to her about the allegation.

Danny Booko informs Luke Broderick, who is engaged to Kristen Doute, that he has evidence of Michelle “sleeping with a billionaire for $1,500/night.” Michelle calls Jesse a “f****** drunk,” and he responds by calling her “a hooker.”

However, as the trailer points out, the other husbands of The Valley aren’t safe either. “When Jason goes out, he takes his wedding ring on off,” Kristen said in the trailer. Janet then said that Danny was “out here grabbing a****,” after he heard allegations of him “getting wasted and handsy and inappropriate.”

But it’s not all doom and gloom for all the couples. Luke is seen proposing to Kristen on a boat in the trailer. This is one of the moments of happiness we were teased with for Season 2. “Will you be the catch of my lifetime?” Luke asks Kristen. After experiencing a miscarriage, the couple revealed to People they were expecting their first child. Their baby girl is expected to arrive over the summer.

“Luke and I are so thrilled to be having a little girl, which honestly was unexpected because I was convinced we were having a boy!” Kristen told the outlet. “To find out in the way that we did, to have Brittany be the one who shared the news from our doctor could not have been more perfect. It was really special to have our family and friends from out of town ‘be there’ virtually.”

Prior To Their Divorce, Jax And Brittany Said Different Things About Their Marriage Status

According to Brittany’s divorce filing, the former couple’s date of separation was January 25, 2024. Both parties attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that April after announcing their separation in February. The two spoke with E! News on the red carpet separately about the status of their relationship. The problem was, they couldn’t seem to get their stories straight. Brittany said they were living separate lives, but remaining friendly for the sake of their son.

“We’re still very much separated,” she told the outlet. “Different hotel rooms, all the stuff. But we are very friendly with each other. We’re raising our child, so that’s most important, but there’s no back together right now.”

Jax didn’t have the same account and his version of things was quite different. He was asked where the two were in their marriage. “Your guess is as good as mine right now,” he replied. “I’m being dead serious. Who knows?” Jax then said that it “depends on how much I have to drink tonight, we’ll see who goes to what room.” He added, “Well, it depends on how much she has to drink, actually.”

He did maintain that he and Brittany were making an effort to work past the situation. “Every week, it’s changing,” Jax said. “We’re talking. We’re eating dinner, we’re going out for drinks. So, who knows? Do I want to be back together again? Of course I would, but, you know, we gotta see what’s healthy for us and our son.”

Jax did say that he hoped to reconcile and get back together one day. “I feel like I’m on the right track,” he said. “I was going through a lot of personal issues with myself and my mental health that needed a time out.”

This isn’t something Brittany wanted or left any room for, however. She explained, “I mean, he needs to work on himself.” Brittany also didn’t seem to be against the idea of playing the field. “I feel like yeah, why not?” she said. “I’m 35. I know what I want. So, if we don’t stay together, of course I’m going to date again.”

Brittany was asked to describe the kind of guy she wanted to find, and she answered, “Somebody who has their stuff together. Nice, funny, just a good man. But, also, I don’t know yet. I’m not there. Maybe one day.”

According to Brittany, one of the benefits of the separation was learning her worth. “I’m a lot stronger than I thought I was,” she said. “I feel like I’ve grown a lot through this whole experience and I’m just glad I was able to stick up for myself in such a big way.”

And it wasn’t just Brittany, as Jax said that he was doing some work on himself as well. “I’m going through a lot of stuff personally, so I’m working on that,” he said. “The most important thing is our son and making sure our son has a great life and a great atmosphere and two loving parents that support him. That’s the most important thing.”
