Ever since her breakout role as Lizzie, Duff has kept pretty busy. She branched into a singing career (who can forget “Come Clean,” the theme song to teen reality series Laguna Beach), entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and worked across a string of hit TV shows and films.

Most recently in acting, Duff has said good bye to seven seasons on the show Younger, where she played Kelsey Peters, a friendly go-getter book editor.

Then, believe-it-or-not, since Lizzie Maguire, Duff booked her first lead TV role in the How I Met Your Mother spin-off, How I Met Your Father, as Sophie, a photographer in search of the one.

Aside from her acting roles, she’s also grown up in her personal life. When she was 22, she married hockey player Matt Comrie. After a decade together, the two eventually went their separate ways, but they share a son named Luca and amicably co-parent.

Since then, Hilary remarried singer Matthew Koma and shares two daughters, Banks and Mae.

Hilary Takes Her Health Seriously

Over the years, studies have shown that taking care of one’s physical health benefits one’s overall health. Given the headlines Duff raised for a photoshoot showing off her toned, taut and healthy figure, it looks like the star takes her health pretty seriously.

Those wondering how she keeps so fit, Duff has shared that she stays pretty active and consistent when it comes to working out.

Leading up to the shoot, she credits the four days a week, hour-long workouts with her trainer, consisting of short sprints of cardio mixed with weights to develop strong and lean muscles.

After the shoot, Duff still works out with her trainer but has a more relaxed approach. Her workouts now are more varied and focus more on keeping her engaged and moving, and on her off days, she plays tennis or goes hiking.

Hilary Overcame Struggles With Food

As Duff had grown up in an industry that pushes maintaining a certain image, when Duff was 17 years old, she developed an eating disorder.

Overcoming that hurdle was tough and had a lasting impact for the actress. The experience led to her working towards a more positive approach regarding body image and confidence and an understanding that it’s not about perfection.

Duff shared, these days, “I don’t put a ton of pressure on myself to be, like, perfect.” Instead, she credits therapy and focuses on appreciating her health and paying attention to what makes her feel strong. This mindset also extends to the people around her.

Duff has credited “Spending time with people that make [her] feel good and share similar views on health and body positivity and getting enough sleep and balance in [her] diet,” to her overall happiness.

Hilary’s Dietary Methods Are Easy To Imitate

In terms of fitness, another well-known component is diet. After what Duff had gone through, today, Duff finds balance through a healthy blend of protein and veggies but also makes sure to indulge in her favorite treats like pastries and sweets by keeping track of her macros.

And all of this sounds like the norm, except for one very interesting smoothie recipe. After Duff gave birth to her daughter Banks, she drank a smoothie blended up with her placenta.

“I haven’t had a smoothie that delightful since I was ten. It was calorie-filled with juice and fruit and everything delicious,” Duff shared. While initially the idea of eating her own organs “repulsed” her, she explained that the practice helps the body recuperate after having a baby and that it has “a lot of nutritional value.”

“I know it sounds gross, but it’s so bad**s a woman can grow a temporary organ. And then you can eat it,” she said.

Hilary Spoke Up About Her Journey

Duff has navigated more than twenty years in the industry. She’s grown up in more ways than one, personally and professionally. She celebrates her first lead TV role since Lizzie Maguire with How I Met Your Father and she’s found peace with her health.

But despite being a famous face, the great thing about the actress is that she still remains relatable. To quote, “I have this habit of choosing these characters who are very relatable, and I feel like that’s just kind of who I am as a person.”
