Jax Taylor has never exactly been a fan favorite in the reality TV world. During his time on Vanderpump Rules, he was known for his cheating scandals — including hooking up with his best friend’s girlfriend — and even had run-ins with the law.
His reputation didn’t much improve on the show’s spinoff, The Valley. His problematic behavior, particularly towards his now-estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright, continued to raise eyebrows among fans. In fact, they’ve even called for Bravo to fire Jax from the show. However, after a 30-day rehab stay last summer, it appears that Jax is on his apology tour to save himself from getting the axe.
The Valley’s Jax Taylor Is Owning Up To His Behavior Towards Brittany Cartwright
Jax Taylor may be overtaking his former Vanderpump Rules castmate Tom Sandoval as reality TV’s true villain. His behavior on the second season of The Valley — particularly towards Brittany Cartwright — has sparked major backlash from fans. Fans are slamming the network for keeping him on the show despite a troubling pattern that includes rage-texting Brittany (and continuing to do so while in rehab), spying on her, and forcing her and their son, Cruz, who was diagnosed with autism, to move out of their home in the San Fernando Valley and bounce between Airbnbs.
However, in a recent episode of his podcast, In the Mind of Jax Taylor, the star is coming to terms with his mistakes and owning up to them, something fans rarely saw from him in the past. Whether it was with ex-girlfriends, friends, or even his bosses, Jax had a long track record on both Vanderpump Rules and The Valley of deflecting blame and dodging responsibility.
Jax admitted that when it came to his relationship with Brittany, he displayed controlling behavior because of his “superiority complex.”
“I never wanted to take any accountability for my actions because like I said, I’m older. I know more than you. You don’t know anything. I had that mentality because she was a lot younger than me.”
Jax also admitted that his stubbornness played a major role in the breakdown of their relationship. “I didn’t seek help when I should have, when she told me to. I didn’t want to hear it,” he confessed. “And men, I believe… are very stubborn. And I’m a very stubborn human being — I’m not wrong, she’s wrong, you know?” He went on to say that their nearly 10-year age gap contributed to his mindset, explaining that it led to a “superiority complex.” “I had that mentality because she was a lot younger than me,” he said, adding, “Okay, I’m the man of the family.”
Although Jax appears to be seeking redemption by calling out his past mistakes, fans are having a tough time buying it. In fact, an online petition with nearly 14,000 signatures asks for Bravo to cut ties with Jax for his problematic behavior.
Jax Apologized Profusely While Appearing On WWHL
On June 17th, Jax appeared as a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen after an episode of The Valley premiered in which he gets out of rehab following his 30-day stay. However, fans were outraged that he was given a platform to speak, given his behavior both on and off the show. In fact, Andy told Jax that the show had received several messages from fans that were angry he was there.
Jax began by apologizing to fans:
“First of all, I want to apologize to everybody who’s watching this right now,” Taylor began. “It’s just the stuff that was shown is pretty triggering to a lot of people and you know I’m watching it back, I watch the episodes now … which is a first. You watch it back and it’s just, like, I’m utterly embarrassed of my actions.”
While addressing his actions towards Brittany in which a fight saw him flip over a coffee table which hit her knee, he admitted to having a “out-of-body experience.” Adding, “Nobody should ever have to deal with the way I acted, nobody should ever have to deal with, you know, verbal abuse from anybody. I’m really sorry that people had to see all that.”
Andy then asked Jax if he was sorry for the way he treated Brittany. “Very sorry to Brittany. It was a very, very, very tough year for both of us.”
Jax Revealed He “Cried My Eyes Out” After Watching Himself Back On The Valley
Jax’s latest confession about taking the blame for his failed marriage to Brittany is just one of many, as fans continue to witness an increasingly troubling side to him on The Valley. His inability to control his anger had him seeking help at a rehab facility for 30 days. However, he continued to rage-text Brittany while inside the facility, and would spy on her from their home security system.
In another episode of his podcast, he spoke with his former VPR castmate Tom Schwartz, about watching himself back on the show, and feeling quite humiliated.
“I did watch it. I sat in the corner and I cried my eyes out. I was so disgusted about what I saw, about that shell of a human being that I was looking at, about how I acted,” he said.
“It was just utter disgust. And, you know, I looked at it like, ‘Wow. I’m glad I watched this because I never wanna be that person again.'”
He even warned fans before the show’s second season premiere that his storyline is “going to be bad.” He added, “It’s going to be really, really bad, but you got to remember, this was shot a year ago. Everyone’s in a different place. Everything’s different now, different relationships, different dynamics.”
In March, Jax also opened up about having an addiction to drugs and alcohol. Speaking on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, he revealed, “I have substance issues — primarily with cocaine. It’s hard to say out loud. I’ve been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I’m 45. There was times where I would stop doing it but then there were times where I’d go heavy on it.”
However, during his WWHL appearance, he admitted to being over 200 days sober.
The Valley Season 2 airs new episodes on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo. Stream episodes the next day on Peacock.
