Ivy Haralson is definitely one of the most sought-after stunt performers in the industry right now. In this year alone, she has starred in everything from Peacock’s Vampire Academy to the critic-loved Marvel sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Even off-screen, she has also showed off her skills in person after doing shows including Cirque Du Solei and Marvel Universe Live. As a POC, she is one of the trailblazers in her craft and making a great impression on the world and its favorite movies and TV shows.
TheThings sat down with the incredible performer once again to hear the story on how she was introduced to the stunt world, working on Vampire Academy, and her dream stunt.
Ivy Haralson Learned About Being A Stunt Woman From Theater School
A trained actress first and foremost, Ivy was first introduced to the realm of on-screen stunt work in the most unexpected place: a theater school. “I went to school for theater and at the program I studied they introduced us to stage combat,” she said. “…and it was all a long journey of twists and turns that introduced me to film stunts.”
She has a Bachelor’s in Theater Performance and has been in the acting industry for well over 10 years.
Ivy Haralson Calls Role On Peacock’s Vampire Academy ‘Life-Changing’
One of Ivy’s most recent works was starring in the Peacock original series Vampire Academy. The show is star-studded, featuring actress like Mortal Kombat star Sisi Stringer and Nickelodeon icon Daniela Nieves. And while we don’t know yet whether or not the show will be picked up for a second season, Ivy was quick to reflect on her amazing time on the show. “Working on Vampire Academy was life changing,” she exclaimed. “Mostly because I love to travel and we shot in Pamplona Spain.“
She also had nothing but amazing things to say about the team behind the series:
The team I worked with was amazing! Whenever you can work on a team of people from all over the world and different walks of life you’re winning!
Ivy Haralson Reveals Her Dream Stunt
When we think of stunt performers, we usually think of people who are extremely adventurous and are willing to take any risk, no matter what. Apparently, that is far from the truth. Ivy shared the biggest misconception that stunt performers get and where she personally stands with the theory. “I think the biggest misconception about being a stuntwoman is that we’re all adrenaline junkies,” she said. “I love to fight and fall as much as the next guy, but there are definitely things I’d have to think about before saying yes to.”
That doesn’t mean that she backs all the way down from an adventure. Ivy also shared a dangerous stunt that she would love to take on one day that seems fit for any Mission Impossible movie:
I would absolutely love to escape an explosion by jumping off a bridge or cliff into water! Slow- mo with the flames to my back, maybe shot at night!
As far as slowing down, this stunt woman has made it clear that she is not. When we asked about her future works, she revealed that we should all be seeing her on our screens pretty soon. “I have a few projects coming up, some on streaming services, some on the big screen,” she teased. “Most of them feature me,…getting beat up! Ha!”. According to her IMDB page, Ivy is definitely booked and busy.
You can see Ivy in action in Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, available now in theaters!
