There are several reasons why Survivor is one of the best reality shows ever produced. After all, even new fans of Jeff Probst’s show who are figuring out which seasons to watch first know that Survivor features compelling moments like medical evacuations. There is also no doubt that the show’s best players ever and its incredible roster of winners have played a major role in creating Survivor’s best seasons.
Another reason why Survivor is an epic show is that fans don’t know what to expect before a season begins. For example, fans don’t know what the challenges are going to be like since they can be frustrating and surprisingly dangerous. Fortunately, before Survivor 48’s premiere, fans got a preview of what to expect from the season’s first immunity challenge.
Survivor 48’s First Immunity Challenge Have Been Revealed
During the premiere episode of each Survivor season, it can be hard for fans to get a handle on how they feel about the players. To be clear, that isn’t the fault of Survivor’s truly incredible production team. Instead, it is a necessity of the show’s concept since viewers are introduced to so many players in quick succession.
As a result, the first challenges during each Survivor season are extremely important for viewers. Throughout the rest of the episode, it is interesting to see how the players handle themselves at camp when producers aren’t telling them what to do. However, seeing how players behave as they compete in their first challenges is very revealing for viewers who are trying to understand them.
With that in mind, it is fascinating to look at what has been revealed about Survivor 48’s first immunity challenge.
On February 21st, 2025, footage of Jeff Probst explaining Survivor 48’s first immunity challenge was uploaded on FanSided Entertainment‘s YouTube channel.

As a result, Survivor fans were allowed to learn how Survivor 48’s extremely important first immunity challenge plays out.
Over the last several years, it has become clear that Survivor’s production team loves incorporating nets into challenges. As most fans will likely agree, that is a good thing since the nets add an element of instability to the challenges, which is fun to see.
Throughout Survivor’s lengthy history, the show has featured many truly entertaining challenges. Despite that, when Entertainment Weekly updated their list of the best challenges ever, in August 2022, they named the show’s first immunity challenge from the first episode as the best ever.
As Jeff’s explanation reveals, Survivor 48’s first immunity challenge also involves nets in a major way.
For today’s challenge, you’re going to race over a massive ramp and through a net tunnel.
Before Survivor 48’s season premiere aired, CBS also released some exclusive images from the first immunity challenge. Those images revealed an important detail about the first immunity challenge that Jeff doesn’t mention in the aforementioned YouTube video.
Since Survivor’s so-called “new era” began, every season to date has begun with three starting tribes. Survivor 48 continues that trend as it begins with three tribes and 18 players. Survivor: Winners at War, the 40th season, was the last one to begin with two tribes.
When the players force their way through the net tunnel, they will also be wading through mud. That is the case because the net tunnel is run over a pit with mud in it that will affect players throughout the remainder of the challenge.
As Jeff went on to explain, once the players make it through the net tunnel, another member of their tribe will take over. At that point, a player who didn’t have to go through the net tunnel and get covered in mud will have to destroy a huge wooden mask for their tribe to continue. After that, the tribe will have to lug a sled filled with puzzle pieces across a track, which doesn’t look like it will be an easy feat.
“One player will use a Fijian war club to smash a mask, releasing a key. You’ll use that key to unlock a sled where you’ll work together to move that sled down a track over sandbags.”
As the challenge nears its end, the players will have to pull the sled and themselves up an inclined piece of wood to a platform above. Finally, as Jeff explained, Survivor 48’s first immunity challenge will end once two of the tribes have completed a puzzle that will look like the season’s logo.
“When you get to the end, you’re goung to pull that very heavy sled to the top of a tall platform where two players will use the pieces inside the sled to solve a Survivor logo puzzle.”
Survivor 48’s Premiere Will Begin A Year Of Celebrating The Show
On May 31st, 2000, the first episode of Survivor premiered on CBS. As a result, Survivor’s 25th anniversary will take place in the next few months. On top of that, Survivor 50 is set to begin airing in early 2026. For both of those reasons, Survivor 48’s premiere will mark the beginning of a year of celebrating the show.
In June 2024, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach told Deadline that the network had big Survivor plans for 2025.
“We will absolutely be celebrating and I would consider it kind of a year-long celebration. We do that really well on CBS. We will have a lot of plans in the works… it’d be the first time in the new era that will have returning players. That’s really exciting.”
As a February 2025 Yahoo! News article revealed, the show will be giving fans the first thing to celebrate during Survivor 48’s premiere. Partway through the episode airing, fans will get to vote on several decisions about Survivor 50. The first round of voting is set to include whether there will be a post-show or reunion, whether the tribes will be given rice, if there will be final four firemaking, and the tribe’s colors. It has been revealed that there will be several rounds of voting that will affect Survivor 50.
In February 2025, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that during 2025, five groups of fans will win the right to visit the set of Survivor 50 to witness part of the taping. These are only the elements of the 2025 year of Survivor celebrations that have been announced so far.
