Hollywood star Kevin Spacey is set to be charged with a further seven sexual offences, the Crown Prosecution Service has said. This comes one month after the actor was found not liable for damages as the trial concerning Anthony Rapp’s $40 million sexual misconduct lawsuit.

Actor Kevin Spacey will be charged with a further seven sexual offences against one man between 2001 and 2004, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

The charges include three counts of indecent assault, three counts of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said: “The CPS has authorised additional criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 63, for a number of sexual assaults against one man between 2001 and 2004.

“The CPS has also authorised one charge of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

The authority to charge follows a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Spacey are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”

The charges include three counts of indecent assault, three counts of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent – all on the same alleged victim.

“The authority to charge follows a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation.”

Last month, the jury for Anthony Rapp’s sexual misconduct lawsuit against American Beauty star Kevin Spacey concluded that the Oscar winner did not sexually abuse his accuser at the age of 14.

Kevin, 50, was found not liable for damages today after a short deliberation from the jury.

The House of Cards star was sued by actor Anthony, who alleged he was the victim of an “unwanted sexual advance” from Kevin when he was a teenager.

Meanwhile, Kevin “categorically denied” the claims and has since been found not liable in a civil trial that claimed he had sexually assaulted Anthony as a teenager in the 1980s.

At the time of the alleged incident, which Anthony said took place in 1986 after a party in Kevin’s New York apartment, the older actor would have been 26.

Both actors testified over several days at the three-week trial for a lawsuit that sought $40m in damages.

Anthony’s lawyer, Richard Steigman, tried to convince jurors to “make Kevin pay” for trying to molest his client and accused the Hollywood A-lister of lying on the witness stand.

However, Kevin’s lawyer, Jennifer Keller, that the younger actor had fabricated the encounter, suggesting he might have lied out of a desire for attention or jealousy of Kevin’s success.

“Mr Rapp is getting more attention in this trial than he has in his entire acting life,” she told the jury.

Anthony had told the court how Kevin had apparently climbed on top of him on a bed and pressed his groin into his hip before the Star Trek actor was able to escape.

Meanwhile, Kevin insisted he had never been alone with Anthony and denied the allegation on the stand.

The 11-person jury in the Federal District Court in Manhattan spent less than 90 minutes deliberating over the evidence before finding Kevin not liable.

They found that Kevin did not touch a sexual or intimate part of Anthony’s, meaning it could not find him liable under the Child Victims Act, a New York State law.
