Hollywood interviews don’t always end well. In fact, some stars have a list of things they don’t want to talk about. Take Mariah Carey as an example, she isn’t overly eager to speak about her time on American Idol.

On the flip side, we’ve also seen situations of celebs leaving interviews abruptly. Cameron Diaz had enough after best friend, Drew Barrymore’s past addiction issues were brought up. Shannon Tweed also left an interview when husband Gene Simmons made a harsh remark about his past…

This interview is a little different. Naomi Watts was promoting her biopic at the time, portraying Princess Diana. It seems like the actress felt a lot of pressure in the role, and wasn’t a fan of the end result.

Her attitude towards the project was on full display during a BBC Radio interview, as the actress decided to leave with time still left on the clock…

Naomi Watts Felt A Lot Of Pressure Playing The Role Of Princess Diana

Taking on the role of Diana was not Naomi Watts’ most memorable work, and the actress would reveal this bit of information herself. Perhaps this was a major reason as to why she walked out of her BBC Radio interview, but we’ll have more on that a little later…

Speaking to Hello Magazine, Watts admitted that the role came with a lot of pressure, especially given that she was portraying a real-life human being, and iconic figure.

“I think when you play real life characters there’s always a extra sense of pressure because of the responsibility to tell the story in the most truthful and accurate way – certainly in the case of Princess Diana, there’s no one as well known as her to date, I don’t think,” she said in the interview.

Watts continued, discussing her prep for the role.

“I found it incredibly difficult in the preparation because usually when you’re inventing a character you start from the inside, you create the interior life and then work on the outside. The appearance – how they dress, how they wear their hair, how they speak – they come last. But with Diana, I had to work in the opposite direction which took a lot of preparation and lot of close study.”

Given all the pressure, Naomi Watts might’ve been on the edge when promoting her film.

Naomi Watts Walked Out Of Her BBC Radio Interview When The Host Started Quizzing Her About Diana

The BBC Radio interview was supposed to last ten minutes, however, at the eight-minute mark, Naomi Watts decided to intervene, and cut it short.

The hosts were both taken aback by this, and asked for at the very least, a proper send-off, so they could’ve used the interview on their show.

However, Watts had already committed to leaving, and all listeners could hear is the sound the actress taking of her head-set and exiting the room.

When asked about the interview, host Simon Mayo wasn’t exactly sure why the Diana star had left the interview abruptly.

“A first for me and @wittertainment as Naomi Watts walked out of an interview! She seemed a tad uncomfortable with the questions. Shame”, he wrote.

Mayo continues, “The honest answer is I have no idea. You know my hectoring style is always a problem.” The host would go on to reveal that he was ‘baffled’ by the interview coming to an early end.

Naomi Watts Wasn’t Happy With The Final Product Of Her Diana Biopic

This might be the prime reason as to why Watts left the interview early. Looking back at her work in the biopic, Naomi Watts revealed alongside Digital Spy that she felt regret about the project.

She stated, “I got seduced by the fantastic character,” she said. “Diana did a lot of things that had positive and negative results. She was multifaceted.”

“But ultimately there were problems [with the film] and it ended up taking a direction that was not the one I was hoping for. With risk there is every chance it’s going to fail. If you have to go down with that sinking ship, so be it.”

Watts wasn’t wrong about her assessment, as the 2013 film made a mere $21 million at the box office, off a budget of $15 million. The biopic was also torn apart by reviews, getting a 7% approval rating from the likes of Rotten Tomatoes.
