Sergio Calderón, who starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Men In Black and The Ruins, died on Wednesday surrounded by family.
The 77-year-old was in hospital and died of natural causes, his spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
He is perhaps best known for playing Captain Eduardo Villanueva in Pirates of the Caribbean (2007) alongside Johnny Depp.
Calderón had previously played José in Men In Black (1997). His character’s head is memorably displayed on the end of a sword which is held by an alien.
In the later years of his six-decade career, Sergio had roles in Little Fockers, the FX series Better Things as well as an episode of Peacock’s The Resort.

Plenty of fans have taken to social media to share their sadness after new broke of his passing.

While Jan lamented: “Sergio Calderon another fine talent and his great spirit and legacy lives.”
And Marianne wrote: “RIP Sergio Calderón. A great actor. A nice guy.”
Sergio previously said that he loved to play villains because “people really hate me”.
He told the Los Angeles Times in a recent interview:”They tell me in the streets how much they hate me.
“But to me, that is my success. Because that means I was able to convince people with what I performed.”
Sergio is survived by his wife Karen Dakin, children Patrick Calderón-Dakin and Johanna Calderón-Dakin, and his grandchildren Krishnaavi, Emiliano and Victoria.
