Björn Andrésen, the former teen actor renowned for his diverse roles from the horror film “Midsommar” to Agatha Christie’s “Hjerson,” has passed away at the age of 70. The Swedish actor gained international recognition as a teenager and was the focus of the 2021 documentary “The Most Beautiful Boy in the World.” He first captured the public’s attention at just 15 years old with his role in “Death in Venice.”
Despite the acclaim, Andrésen expressed dissatisfaction with his experiences on the set of director Luchino Visconti’s film. At the premiere, Visconti famously called him “the most beautiful boy in the world.” Andrésen later revealed that Visconti took him to a gay nightclub when he was 16, an experience he described as making him “very uncomfortable.”
Reflecting on the incident, Andrésen said, “The waiters at the club looked at me uncompromisingly as if I was a nice meaty dish. I knew I couldn’t react. It would have been social suicide. But it was the first of many such encounters.” In 2003, he compared his experience in the spotlight to being “like an exotic animal in a cage.”
Andrésen was married to Susanna Roman, and the couple had two children. Tragically, their son Elvin passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at nine months old. Andrésen is survived by his daughter, Robine.
The news of Andrésen’s passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans. One admirer shared online, “Nooo, I just watched ‘Death in Venice’ for the first time a few months ago. RIP.”
Another echoed: “He deserved better,” while a third wrote: “Very memorable in Midsommar!”
