The property expert has opened up difficult period she faced during her battle with cancer as Sarah Beeny shared she “welled up” after missing an important family milestone.

Sarah and her husband Graham Swift share four sons – Billy, Charlie, Rafferty and Laurie and the four are in the band, The Entitled Sons, together.

Speaking to Chris Evans on the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show today, the Channel 4 star opened up about her cancer journey which will be detailed in a new documentary, Sarah Beeny vs Cancer.

Chris explained that the property expert’s four sons performed at the Virgin Radio host’s annual CarFest in 2022, however, their mum was noticeably absent.

Chris said: “It’s in your show. You were going to come to [CarFest] but you didn’t come, your hubby did as he’s sort of in the band anyway.

“You were at home and they returned after their gig. You teared up a lot, actually, because you’ve never really missed anything they have done before.”

Sarah replied: “No, I’ve not missed any stage [of their lives]. I’ve been very, very fortunate in my career in that I can get to things, like doing the egg and spoon race.

“But to miss them playing at CarFest. It’s a massive, a proper grown up place. It was really, really hard.”

Chris explained the message he received was that Sarah was “not well enough” to attend the event.

Sarah explained the reason for her absence, saying: “It was just after my first chemotherapy [session]. To be honest, a few more chemos down the line I would have been more robust.

“But after the first one, they said, ‘Don’t get an infection – you’re going to be sick everywhere.’

“And I thought, [the kids] don’t need me being sick. I thought I’ll be a real pain if I’m really ill.”

She added: “I didn’t end up feeling too bad. Luckily, I only got a few infections.”

The poignant moment was captured by cameras in her new TV documentary where she hopes to inspire others who may be going through similar health issues.

The star also revealed she took the decision to cut her long blonde hair short before receiving treatment which she knew would make her go bald.

In August 2022, the property expert was diagnosed with breast cancer, almost exactly 40 years after her mother died of the same disease when Sarah was just ten years old.

Sarah Beeny vs Cancer is on Channel 4 at 9pm on Monday, June 12.
