The highly anticipated reunion of Love Is Blind Season 9 premiered this week, revealing a plethora of revelations and updates from the cast. As the reality TV stars shared personal updates, some even disclosed exciting news about expanding their families.
The reunion special, which ran for an impressive 73 minutes, delivered far more than just dramatic revelations. To add an extra layer of intrigue, Netflix surprised viewers with two celebrity appearances, further intensifying the episode’s appeal.
Ally Simpson, one of the show’s Executive Producers, spoke to People about the decision to bring NBA star Chris Paul into the mix. During the reunion, Chris made a memorable entrance with a full-sized basketball hoop, reigniting a playful rivalry between cast members Kacie and Patrick. The duo had previously engaged in a friendly game of desktop basketball while in the pods, and this reunion brought their competitive spirit back to life with a live shootout.
NBA Player Chris Paul Showed Up To Shoot Baskets
One of the show’s Executive Producers, Ally Simpson, explained to People that they brought in NBA player Chris Paul to switch things up in the reunion. Two of the cast members, Kacie and Patrick, played a game of desktop basketball against each other while in the pods, and Chris appeared with a full-sized basketball net at the reunion, encouraging the two participants to have a shoot off once more.
Ally explained how Chris’ reunion appearance came together:
It was cool that Kacie and Patrick had this basketball connection in the pods and we could bring [Chris Paul] in, and he’s a fan of the show, and that all felt very natural and organic to make happen.
Chris appeared at the reunion in a bright red sweater, joking that whoever made the most baskets between Kacie and Patrick would get to keep the engagement ring. Kacie ended up scoring more points, and Patrick really did end up giving his ex-fiancée the ring back.
Myles Smith Opened With A Musical Performance
The Season 8 reunion was the first time Love Is Blind included a musical performance at the reunion. Last season, Alex Warren performed his song “Ordinary,” and this time around, producers wanted to kick off the reunion with an artist once again.
This time, Myles Smith took the stage with a full band to sing his hit “Nice to Meet You.” As Myles sang, the hosts introduced the cast as they walked down a flight of stairs and took their seats before the cameras. Ally noted they chose Myles for Season 9 because they knew he’d bring good energy to the episode:
We were lucky enough to get Myles Smith on board to perform at this reunion. What was cool is, with the success of the last one, we really had the interest of virtually every major label coming to us saying, ‘Hey, can we give you some names and some possibilities?’ And Myles Smith, for us, it’s a mix of both the artist and the song. I think we knew we wanted to do a big, exciting open with the music performance, and so he’s just a really great guy and a really terrific artist.
“We also felt like the song was something that just felt celebratory and a great kickoff to the reunion,” Ally continued. “It’s a song that’s actually been out a little bit and continued to rise in the charts, and so we’re excited to see if giving it this platform is able to give it a real push that I think it deserves. So we were grateful to get him in the end,” she added.
