Strictly Come Dancing 2023 star Angela Scanlon has faced criticism after being filmed hanging out of a moving car in a social media video.
The One Show host’s Instagram stunt has since been branded “reckless” by a member of the public who reported Angela, 39, to Hertfordshire Police, according to The Sun.
They told the publication: “I was rooting for Angela to lift the strictly glitter ball until I watched this video.
“No seatbelt, no concern for her safety or other road users, it was reckless.
“What would have happened if a motorbike or cyclist was driving past?
“If it was any other member of the public they’d face a big fine. I’m sick of celebrities thinking they can behave however they like. It was a stupid stunt.”
Angela has also been slammed by road safety campaigners over the now-deleted video, which showed the Strictly star performing dance moves through the back window of a car, which was driving along a residential street near the BBC’s Elstree Studios, Herts.
In the Instagram video, which was set to music, the TV personality also waves to a passing cyclist while popping her head out of the vehicle’s window.
Angela sparked further fury as she couldn’t be seen wearing a seatbelt during her dance in the car.
Nicholas Lyes, Director of Policy at road safety charity IAM RoadSmart, told the aforementioned publication: “Dangling any part of the body out of the window of a moving car is incredibly dangerous and risks serious injury or death.
“To make matters worse, in this instance it appears no seatbelt was being worn which risks the passenger being thrown out of the vehicle when the brakes are applied.”
The complaint has been passed to the Cameras, Tickets, Collisions Unit for Hertfordshire Police and the Digital Evidence Team is reportedly observing the footage.
Sources have since claimed that when Angela’s video was filmed, she was travelling in a BBC car between studios on her way to film Strictly: It Takes Two with her professional dance partner Carlos Gu.
Express.co.uk has contacted the BBC and Angela for comment.
Meanwhile, Angela took to Instagram again this morning to share a photo of herself and Carlos ahead of appearing on It Takes Two.
The mum-of-two captioned the snap: “First It Takes Two.
“(not sure what my hair is doing! baby hair growing back & it is WILD.”
