The summer is almost over for the cast of Summer House Season 9. However, not everyone’s time in the Hamptons has been sweet. Viewers watched as newbie Lexi Wood and Jesse Soloman’s romance quickly burned, Paige DeSorbo making realizations about her relationship with Southern Charm’s Craig Conover, and Ciara Miller continuing to give West Wilson the cold shoulder.
In the latest episode, things are far from smooth between exes Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke. It was only a matter of time before the formerly engaged couple clashed again this summer. To mark the one-year anniversary of their breakup, Lindsay throws a “Freedom Dinner” for her housemates—but unsurprisingly, it doesn’t end well.
In Episode 14, titled “The Ex Files,” the gang heads back to their Hamptons house, and during the car ride, Lindsay Hubbard reveals to Gabby Prescod and Lexi Wood that she’s planning a “Freedom Dinner.” The day just so happens to be August 30th — the same day in which Carl Radke ended their engagement one year ago. Now very pregnant, Lindsay decides it’s only fitting to mark the occasion by celebrating her freedom from him and all the things she accomplished after they split.
To rub salt into the wound, the housemates, including Carl, learn that Lindsay put up an Instagram post in which she shared photos of her bridal shower, and other occasions before their break-up. Her post included a very lengthy caption detailing everything she’s done after Carl’s on-camera Season 8 split. “Now all my dreams are coming true. And they wouldn’t have happened if I was still in that relationship,” she shares.
Lindsay’s caption read: “What a difference a year makes 🤯 Today is the one year anniversary of the day that changed the course of my life forever. When I think back to this day last year, it was one of the most difficult, humiliating & traumatic events of my adult life. But although the unknown of my future was terrifying… One year later, I can honestly say I am happier than I have ever been because I focused on my own goals, success and happiness.”
Carl shared his take on the whole thing, telling the guys in the house that he finds it embarrassing that Lindsay is still harboring so many feelings over their breakup. She’s clearly moved on with someone else and is even expecting a child.
“I’m sorry, when you put something out in that depth of detail, it’s screaming something else inside of you, very deep and dark in your body, that is having a hard time with the reality of what actually f***ing happened. Period.”
Lindsay walks into the house with Amanda Batula, jokingly sharing that she had “saw your post. Sorry, I read your book.” Amanda responds that she thought Lindsay was “done with timelines.” According to Lindsay, this seemed like something she needed to do in order to recognize the good that came out of their disastrous relationship.
Near the end of Episode 14, Lindsay gets her “Freedom Dinner” ready and has sandwiches delivered to the house, which is hilarious given that Carl bought sandwiches for his housemates earlier in the day.
Describing the upcoming dinner, she shares: “I’d like to refer to it as my “freedom dinner.” Because it set me free and allowed me to go pursue everything that I’ve pursued this past year. Now all my dreams are coming true. And they wouldn’t have happened if I was still in that relationship.”
When everyone was seated for dinner, Lindsay asked if they saw her Instagram post. Carl chimed in, “I didn’t look at Instagram. But I was sent it. Several times.” He then tells her, “Thank you for reminding everybody about last year. Publicly. In paragraph after paragraph after paragraph. Stating a reality that I don’t think was reality, so, great job.” Awkward!
When Carl shares that he didn’t need to post about their break last year like she did, Lindsay replies, “Why not? It was a terrible, horrible, awful day for me,” with Carl adding, “For me as well.”

“I think the post is a little much,” Carl told her. “I don’t think celebrating what happened last year—” he began to say before Lindsay interjected, “Who said anyone’s celebrating?” She then makes it a point that she isn’t the only one celebrating her “newfound freedom.” Lexi Wood just broke up with Jesse Soloman and she’s now a free woman.
“Well, Lexi and Jesse just went through a tough moment. Guess what? You are also free…we’re all free. A lot’s happened in this past year. It was a very traumatic day. Humiliating, quite frankly. But, I am pregnant, and that is the best thing that could have ever happened to me, and I don’t think that would have happened if we didn’t break up,” she shared.
As she holds up her glass, she toasts to Carl: “So, honestly Carl, thank you for setting me free, so that I could go and accomplish my dreams.”
“I could only dream that you’re happy, and I’m happy,” Carl said. “And I feel like we’ve accomplished that.”
After a steamy summer romance, Lexi decides it’s time to call it quits with Jesse. He’s crossed too many lines for her to trust him again—like getting his toe sucked by a random woman, flirting with Ciara Miller when Lexi isn’t around, and, to top it all off, choosing to get a manicure at 9 p.m. instead of spending time with her and her friends. Needless to say, the vibes were off and there was too much “ick” for Lexi.
“When you said that, I immediately got, like, a gut punch where I’m like, ‘He’s lying again,'” Lexi told Jesse during a private conversation, referring to his nail appointment. She continued, “You’ve changed me. I no longer trust people like I did at the start of the summer. I feel like the light in me is slowly dying because I’m exhausted from teaching you. I’ve said this all summer: I feel like it’s, like, emotional whiplash.”
Another issue Lexi brought up was that Jesse disallowed her from forming bonds with the women in the house, particularly with Ciara. Jesse didn’t fight for Lexi to rethink her decision, but he was really upset that she called him a liar among other things.
“I think she’s gaslighting me into thinking that I actually did some really bad stuff. It’s like she’s making up that I told these half-truths, which are lies, and now I’m a liar … It’s messed up.”
When Jesse was speaking to the rest of the housemates after their breakup, he claimed that Lexi “was upset” that he fixed his friendship with Ciara. However, when Kyle Cooke informs Lexi of this news, she’s shocked. “We did not have any conversation about Ciara. That’s not fair for him to say that I’m ending this because of her. That’s f–king diabolical.”
At Lindsay’s “Freedom Dinner,” Lexi confronted Jesse about his many lies, including the fact that their split had nothing to do with Ciara, but was only about “you and your actions” throughout the summer. Lexi then boldly claims that Jesse told her he didn’t even like Ciara, adding, “You were trying to pit us all against each other all summer. … And, yeah, right now, based on what you’ve told me about her all summer, I don’t trust her.” Lexi then looks at Ciara and shares, “I’m sorry. I don’t trust you.”
