The Today show has been mocked for using the phrase ‘a family affair’ as a headline just days after footage surfaced of host Karl Stefanovic intervening in Michael Clarke’s blazing row with girlfriend Jade Yarbrough.
Producers made the blunder around 9am on Friday, during a segment in which Sarah Abo’s father and sister joined Today from the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.
Stefanovic, standing alongside fellow Today presenters Tim Davies, Alex Cullen and Brooke Boney, spent the four-minute segment interviewing the Abos on how well they thought Sarah had fared during her first week on-air, as the words ‘A Family Affair’ flashed below.

The headline clearly referred to the Abo family’s appearance on the show, but had an unintended double meaning thanks to Stefanovic’s involvement in the now-infamous Noosa rumble.
Extraordinary footage emerged last Wednesday of a heated exchange between Clarke and his girlfriend while they were on holiday in Noosa.
In the video, which was filmed by an onlooker on January 10 and later sold to The Daily Telegraph for a reported $10,000 fee, Yarbrough accused Clarke of cheating on her with his ex, fashion designer Pip Edwards, on December 17.

Others in the group, including Stefanovic, his wife Jasmine – Yarbrough’s sister – and celebrity accountant Anthony Bell, tried to defuse the fracas.
Yarbrough and Clarke, who was limping in the footage after hurting his hamstring, have since been slapped with ‘public nuisance’ fines.
Stefanovic is yet to make a statement on the matter, but was asked about the footage during an event at the Australian Open on Thursday.

According to the Herald Sun, he smiled when asked if he wanted to comment but refused to say anything.
‘You know what the answer is going to be,’ he replied.
A remorseful Clarke has since taken full responsibility for what happened.

Edwards, the ‘other woman’ in the scandal, issued a statement on the night the footage was released. ‘This is not my circus. Yet again, Michael in his true nature has not taken responsibility for his actions and I was blatantly lied to,’ she told Daily Mail Australia. ‘I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position. My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable,’ he said.
‘I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.’
