Yes, even the biggest names in Hollywood must have some regrets, for either passing on a script, or failing an audition. Ryan Gosling said no to Fifty Shades early on in the process, while Uma Thurman would also reject Lord of the Rings. Thurman admitted to making a mistake, and likely would’ve chose otherwise if the chance would remerge.

Emma Watson also falls into this category, rejecting La La Land, despite all the Oscar buzz the film received.

Tom Holland changed his career thanks to Spider-Man. However, his audition process was a stressful one. We’ll take a look back at how it all went down. In addition, we’ll take a look at a major failed audition Tom Holland took part in. Although the role was signficant, he missed out for the silliest of reasons.

Tom Holland Had A Successful Audition For Spider-Man But Getting The Role Didn’t Come Easy

We’re not going to feel too sorry for Tom Holland and the fact that he missed out on a franchise worth billions, given the fact that he was able to land Spider-Man. Nonetheless, the process for the role of Peter Parker wasn’t any easier. In fact, the actor revealed with Slash Films to taking part in eight auditions during a five month process.

“That process was five months. I did eight auditions. I did five self-tapes, and then a screen test with Robert Downey Jr. and a screen test with Chris Evans. In the screen test with Robert Downey Jr., they brought me into the room and I met him.”

“I was so nervous. In my head, I thought, ‘Wow, you look really weird in person. You don’t look like you do onscreen.’ I found out later that I met his stand-in. I basically got my nerves out on his stand-in and then met him.”

As if the audition process wasn’t stressful enough, the waiting period was that much harder for Holland, who wouldn’t hear anything for several days.

“With each passing day, there was no phone call. I flew back to London. Five weeks passed. I kept checking my phone every 20 minutes, trying to find something.”

Holland got the role and it clearly changed his career for the better. However, when auditioning for Star Wars, it was the complete opposite experience.

Starring alongside a franchise worth $10 billion can change anyone’s career, and that included Tom Holland. Missing out on the role is understandable, however, in Holland’s case, he might’ve been kicking himself.

According to the actor, he got a bad case of the giggles during the audition, due to a stand-in playing the role of the drone.

He recalls, “I remember my audition for Star Wars, I was like four or five auditions in, and I think I was auditioning for John Boyega’s role,” he told Backstage. “I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone.”

“So I was doing all of this, like, ‘We gotta get back to the ship!’ And she was going, ‘Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.’ I just couldn’t stop laughing. I found it so funny. And I felt really bad, because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they’re called. Yeah, I obviously didn’t get the part. That wasn’t my best moment.”

Not exactly an ideal audition for Holland but at the very least, he left with some good laughs… Holland is far from the only star to miss out on Star Wars, as some the biggest A-listers either turned down, or passed on the project.

Tom Holland Is Far From The Only Actor To Miss Out On Star Wars

Leonardo DiCaprio actually turned down the role of Anakin Skywalker. He was riding the high of Titanic at the time and according to the actor, he just wasn’t ready to take on that type of project. This benefitted Hayden Christensen, who was also on the short-list and ended up getting the role.

Among the other names who came close to appearing in Star Wars, includes Paul Walker, Ryan Phillippe, Tupac Shakur, Michael Jackson, Sylvester Stallone, Jodie Foster and countless others.

Quite the amount of star power on such a list, which is to be expected.
