General Hospital fans will soon bid farewell to Kate Mansi, who is stepping away from her role as Kristina Corinthos-Davis after a three-year tenure on the iconic soap opera. Mansi, who took on the character in 2023, succeeded in portraying the daughter of mob boss Sonny Corinthos (played by Maurice Benard) and attorney Alexis Davis (portrayed by Nancy Lee Grahn).

Prior to joining General Hospital, Mansi was well-known for her portrayal of Abigail Deveraux on Days of Our Lives from 2011 until 2016. Her outstanding performance won her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2017. She further secured a nomination in 2019 for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series. Her role as Kristina on General Hospital earned her another Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2025.

In a candid conversation with Stephanie Sloane for her newsletter, Mansi shared the reasons behind her departure from General Hospital. She explained, “I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave General Hospital. I have a few new projects that require my full attention, and with my husband [Matt McInnis] currently producing a series filming primarily abroad, I needed the flexibility to travel while continuing to develop and work in Los Angeles.”

In an interview with Stephanie Sloane for her newsletter, Mansi revealed why she’s leaving General Hospital and the role of Kristina. She said, “I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave General Hospital. I have a few new projects that require my full attention and with my husband [Matt McInnis] currently producing a series filming primarily abroad, I needed the flexibility to travel while continuing to develop and work in Los Angeles.”

Mansi also shared that she’s thankful for her time on General Hospital, stating, “I’m incredibly grateful to [executive producer] Frank [Valentini], ABC, and our writers for the care they gave Kristina. It’s been such a meaningful and unforgettable ride. I’ve loved being a fiery Corinthos-Davis girl in such a phenomenal family.”

Kate Mansi Loved Playing Kristina Because Of Her Meaningful Storylines

Mansi added that she was proud of the meaningful storylines that she was able to bring to life on General Hospital as Kristina. She said, “When Frank first approached me about the role, two things deeply resonated with me: the opportunity to show my support for the queer community by playing an LGBTQ+ character, and to help tell an endometriosis storyline. Together, I truly feel we honored both of those stories in a way that mattered. And the fact that I got to direct was simply the icing on the cake! Now, it feels like the right time for both Kristina and me to step into new adventures.”

As Kristina, Mansi was one half of one of General Hospital’s most beloved LGBTQ+ couples, alongside Jacqueline Grace Lopez, who played Blaze. She also helped to bring awareness to endometriosis during a storyline in which Kristina was an egg donor and surrogate for her sister Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos), who lives with the condition, and her partner TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow). Mansi, who lives with endometriosis herself, has directed several episodes of General Hospital, including one that focused on the condition.

Although Mansi is leaving General Hospital, executive producer Frank Valentini is open to her returning in the future. He stated, “We love Kate and support her decision to leave. The door is always open, and we appreciate all that she added to the show these past three years.”

Throughout the past three years on General Hospital, Mansi brought new depth to Kristina, and the character grew so much thanks to her extraordinary portrayal. As one of the Davis girls–Alexis, Kristina, Molly, and the late Sam (Kelly Monaco)–Kristina was a bright light on the soap opera. Mansi is wished all the best as she begins this new chapter of her life.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for the time.
