As a former child star, Zendaya was busy working at an age at which most kids spend their time at school or playing. Then, once Zendaya became an adult, she enjoyed even more success largely because she landed a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Given the fact that films about superheroes make a lot of money, it makes sense that many comic book movie stars have become very rich. Fortunately for Zendaya, just like most of her MCU costars, she has managed to accumulate an impressive fortune.
In the years since Zendaya rose to fame, she has often been surprisingly relatable. A perfect example of that is Zendaya once revealed that she tried to make food and she failed so badly that she swore off cooking forever.
However, since Zendaya is rich and famous, many fans likely think she couldn’t relate to their financial stresses. While it is very clear that Zendaya doesn’t need to worry about going broke anytime soon, it turns out that she worries about money far more than most fans would assume.
How Much Money Is Zendaya Worth?
From a very early age, Zendaya began making money as a model, backup dancer, and the star of several commercials. Also hired by the people behind Kidz Bop, Zendaya then went on to land the role that would make her famous.
In 2010, Zendaya became a Disney Channel star when she began headlining the show Shake It Up alongside Bella Thorne. Going on to star in that show for three seasons, Zendaya developed a devoted fan base during those years.
Once Shake It Up came to an end, Zendaya’s Disney Channel days continued as she starred in the show K.C. Undercover for another three seasons.
In 2017, Zendaya’s career changed forever when she became a legitimate movie star. Hired to star as MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Zendaya has reprised that role in two more movies, and she is set to make more MCU appearances in the future.
Zendaya’s movie star resume also includes roles in movies like The Greatest Showman as well as Malcolm & Marie. More notably, Zendaya has starred in one Dune film to date, and she will continue to star in that franchise going forward.
Thanks to all of the impressive success Zendaya has enjoyed, she has been able to demand some impressive paydays. In fact, according to celebritynetworth.com, Zendaya has a $20 million fortune as of this writing and that figure is only set to grow in the future.
Why Zendaya Still Worries About Money
When most people imagine what it would be like to become famous, one of the first things they think about is how nice it would be to buy whatever you want. Considering that the vast majority of people can’t afford to buy many of the things they want, that makes a lot of sense.
Whether it makes sense to imagine spending with abandon or not, the truth of the matter is that kind of thinking has gotten a lot of stars in trouble. After all, a surprisingly large amount of celebrities have gone broke because they spent with abandon.
Fortunately, it seems very clear that Zendaya almost certainly won’t go broke due to overspending unless something dramatically changes. After all, the MCU star has made it clear that she is careful with her fortune.
While it is wonderful that Zendaya is smart with her money, based on what she told British Vogue in 2021, she seemingly worries about money a lot more than she needs to.
As Zendaya revealed during her British Vogue interview, her mom brought her up to be frugal. As a result, Zendaya struggles to spend money on herself, and she worries that her fortune is going to dry up.
“My mother’s a saver, and so I try to keep that in mind.”
“The hope is to have a career where you can be in a position, financially, to just do things you want to do because you enjoy the work and not have to worry about the other things…. But I’m always like, ‘I will always need to work.’ Because if I don’t work, then everything can be gone tomorrow.”
On the other hand, Zendaya’s dad has been trying to influence her to be willing to treat herself more. Ultimately, Zendaya believes that she isn’t as frugal as her mom or as freewheeling with her money as her dad thinks she should be.
“Then my dad’s like, ‘You know, you can’t spend it when you’re dead’—kind of thing. I’m somewhere in between….”
During that same British Vogue interview, Zendaya explained what she thinks about buying clothes. A perfect example of how Zendaya has found a happy medium, she explained she is willing to buy more expensive pieces but unlike a lot of other stars, she wears her clothes multiple times.
“I want to reuse my clothes. I want to be able to wear that dress again when I’m 40 and be like, ‘This old thing?’ Really finding good vintage pieces that I want to invest my money in.”
Zendaya also went on to explain that she bought herself an expensive diamond ring, but she made to use her “employee discount” since she represents Bulgari. Furthermore, Zendaya sees the ring as an investment she can pass down.
“It feels like it’s gonna be an heirloom, like one day I can give it to my grandchildren.”
On the one hand, the fact that Zendaya is careful with her money is great. However, it certainly sounds like Zendaya’s money problems aren’t all gone since she clearly continues to worry about money despite her riches.
