Lady Gaga fans have been accused of trying to sabotage Venom’s opening weekend so moviegoers will see A Star Is Born instead.
The pop star-turned-actress’s little monsters have reportedly been writing bad reviews for the superhero film on Twitter to keep others from seeing it. Before long, other Twitter users began to notice something strange about the reviews — each of them was worded exactly the same.
One of the seemingly copy and pasted tweets read: ‘I am the biggest marvel fan but I just watched #Venom and I don’t know what to say.’
Lady Gaga fans have been accused of writing fake negative reviews for Venom to encourage moviegoers to see A Star Is Born instead
Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga are receiving rave reviews for their performances in A Star Is Born
Buzzfeed contacted one of the accounts that sent a negative review of Venom and found that it was, indeed, fake.
The user behind the account admitted: ‘It’s us Gaga fans creating fake IDs to trash the Venom premiere. They both are getting released on the same day, so we want more audience for A Star Is Born.’
Lady Gaga’s fans may not have had to go through all that effort to keep people from seeing Venom. As the premiere date draws closer, reviews are rolling in and they’re bad.
CNet wrote that Venom ‘may very well be the dumbest film of the year’.
So far the film has a 27 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A Star Is Born has 95 per cent.
Before you flock to the theater to marvel at Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s on-screen chemistry, why not get a big familiar with the film’s star? Here’s what you need to know about the six-time Grammy Award winner.
Who is Lady Gaga?
Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, is an American musician, songwriter and actress. She was born March 28, 1986 in New York City.
She dropped out of high school to pursue her music career. Lady Gaga got her start in the industry working as a songwriter at Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
With a little help from Akon, she was able to sign a joint deal with Interscope Records and his label, KonLive Distribution.
In 2008, she released her debut album The Fame, which featured hits like Just Dance and Poker Face. The following year, her EP The Fame Monster featuring songs like Bad Romance and Telephone, came out.
At this point, Lady Gaga’s fandom was growing.
In 2011, she released Born This Way, on which she played with her sound a bit. The album landed on top of the Billboard 200 in the United States and sold over 1 million copies in its first week.
Artpop followed in 2013, topping US charts yet again. The album featured the song Applause, which was wildly popular with fans.
Lady Gaga put together a jazz album with Tony Bennett in 2014, which again landed at No. one.
In 2016, she won her first Golden Globe Award for best actress for her role on American Horror Story: Hotel. She continued to appear on the show after the fact.
That same year she released the album Joanne, a tribute to her late aunt, on which she once again experimented with her sound. The album took the No. one spot on US charts and made her the first woman to have four US No. one albums in the 2010s.
She’s one of the best-selling artists in history with more than 27 million albums and 146 million singles sold.
Throughout the course of her career, Lady Gaga has collected six Grammys, three Brit Awards and an award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
In her personal life, Lady Gaga was engaged to Taylor Kinney in 2015. In July of that year the pair called it quits.

Are Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper dating?
After seeing the trailer for A Star Is Born, fans began buzzing about the palpable chemistry between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Many questioned whether the pair were dating off-screen.
Speculation continued as the pair gushed about one another in interviews.
The pair are not dating, however.
Gaga herself acknowledged that they have chemistry, though. She told Vogue their on-screen connection is very real.
‘This is what I think makes the film so successful: That it was so real. And I’ve lived it, so I can testify to that,’ she said.
Bradley is dating Irina Shayk and has been since 2015. The model gave birth to their first child together one week before he started directing A Star Is Born.
Lady Gaga is currently engaged to Cristian Carino, whom she’s been dating since 2017.
A Star Is Born Reviews
A Star Is Born hasn’t even hit theaters yet and it’s pulling in rave reviews from critics.
Roger Ebert gave it four and a half stars, writing: ‘This story has been told several times before — and influenced other similar romances — but [Bradley] Cooper and [Lady] Gaga find a way to make this feel fresh and new. It’s in their eyes.’
The review continues: ‘Cynics may be tempted to rip apart A Star Is Born but there’s just too much that’s been done right for them to sound legit. (A friend joked “It’s a musical even angry people can like.”) It’s about the people.’
Slate called A Star Is Born ‘astonishing on multiple levels’.
The reviewer writes: ‘The astonishment comes in part from the fact that such an assured piece of filmmaking represents Cooper’s directorial debut after more than a decade of fame as an incredibly acclaimed and versatile actor.
‘But at a more primal level, it’s Gaga who dazzles. Taking on a role best known for Judy Garland’s incandescently great performance in the 1954 version, she proves herself worth of those famous ruby-red slippers — or, rather, crafts herself a whole new pair of shoes from some hitherto unknown but fabulously sparkly material.’
The Boston Globe claims ‘The opening 45 minutes of A Star Is Born are as good as mainstream movie making gets in the 21st century, and the rest is only slightly less impressive for being so familiar.
‘We’re perfectly willing to come to a story we’ve heard before as long as its emotions can be made convincingly fresh. That’s what happens here.’
Lady Gaga Shallow

Shallow is the lead single on the A Star Is Born soundtrack, due for release October 5. The album is co-written by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt.
Four additional duets between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are expected to be featured on the soundtrack along with five solo songs by the actor and eight Lady Gaga-only songs.
