Brazil’s 2022 World Cup Campaign got underway on Thursday with a 2-0 victory over Serbia, and Neymar had to leave the field with a swollen ankle that needed treatment.
After being replaced due to an ankle injury in Brazil’s opening World Cup victory over Serbia, Neymar appeared to be in tears on the bench.
After being heavily tackled by Nikola Milenkovic in the 80th minute of Thursday’s 2-0 victory, the 30-year-old was substituted.
While receiving treatment, he sat with his face covered, and images revealed that his right ankle was severely swollen. The Brazilian team doctor confirmed the forward’s injury and added that it would be examined again on Friday.
Neymar Jr Swollen Ankle: Is He Out Of World Cup?
Neymar left the field with a swollen ankle; however, he is not out of World Cup.
According to manager Tite, Neymar will participate in the World Cup, insisted that the problem won’t end his tournament.
While receiving treatment for an ankle that he appeared to roll under a challenge earlier in the game, Neymar watched the final 10 minutes of Brazil’s victory from the sidelines as they easily defeated Serbia. However, he did so while concealing his face under his shirt.
After the game, Neymar’s ankle was sprained, and the team doctor for Brazil said they would need 24 to 48 hours to determine the full extent of the injury. He looked uncomfortable as he needed to be comforted by some Selecao bench players and had ice taped to the injured area of his right ankle.
In what may be his final World Cup, an injury scare for Neymar would be terrifying. A back fracture cost him the 2014 World Cup in his home nation, and Brazil struggled in 2018.
However, many predicted Neymar to finally steal the show on the international stage with his mesmerizing talent because Selecao entered this tournament as one of the favorites.
Neymar Jr Injury Update: How Is He Now?
His ankle will be examined on Friday, according to team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar. They must hold off until then and refrain from speaking before they are ready.
Neymar will have an ankle scan, the Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar announced in the post-game press conference alongside manager Tite. He disclosed that Neymar had suffered direct trauma to his right ankle.
They immediately began the treatment on the bench due to the shock he experienced when he saw the Serbian player’s knee, and he continued the treatment with physiotherapy.
Over the past few years, the Paris St. Germain striker’s right foot has experienced several injuries. His right ankle’s torn ligaments prevented him from competing in the 2019 Copa America, and a similar injury kept him out for several weeks in 2021.

Brazil’s Victory Overshadowed By Neymar’s Injury
After two unsuccessful attempts to win the trophy, Neymar was supposed to redeem himself at this World Cup. He entered the tournament in impressive form for Paris Saint-Germain, so this is probably his last chance. Now, an injury might ruin his plans.
It’s concerning to see him slumped on the bench after being replaced and to see pictures of his swollen ankle. Even with 11 days left before Brazil’s probable round-of-16 match, Neymar needs more time to rest and reach his peak performance.
