Corlie McCormick Jr. is a seasoned attorney and the spouse of U.S. Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th Congressional District. He is the founder of the McCormick Law Firm, a Washington, D.C.-based practice that specializes in representing executives and professionals in employment-related legal matters.
With more than 15 years of experience, Mr. McCormick has built a robust career as a civil litigator, trial attorney, appellate advocate, and legal advisor. His expertise spans a wide range of complex civil litigation, including Constitutional law, civil rights, employment discrimination, higher education law, contracts, and torts.
Before launching his own firm, Mr. McCormick served as an Assistant Attorney General in Maryland, where he represented the state government and its agencies.
He holds licenses to practice law in Maryland, Washington, D.C., the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Attorney Corlie McCormick is the husband of U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL). He is one of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Spouses, composed of the husbands and wives of the African American members of Congress. When the couple married, Mr. McCormick never imagined that his wife would run and then win a Congressional seat.
“When we said, ‘I do’ I knew my life would never be the same, but I never imagined that my wife would run and then win a Congressional seat,” McCormick told the Washington Informer. “It was a whirlwind to enter politics. I do believe being in Congress has helped us to develop a closer relationship as a husband, and a family, and we support the congresswoman and are very proud of all she has accomplished.”
