Deborra-Lee Furness is an Australian actress and producer who has had a successful career in the entertainment industry.

She was an established actress and an Aussie star when she met Hugh Jackman in 1995. Despite their 13-year-age gap, they became a power couple and raised two kids who are now young adults.

She was born on 30 November 1955 in Annandale, New South Wales, Australia, and raised in Melbourne, Victoria. Deborra-Lee Furness’ age is 67 years as of 2023.

She rose to fame in 1988 when she starred in the movie Shame, for which she won Best Actor awards from the Film Critics Circle of Australia and Golden Space Needle.

Furness has appeared in several other films and TV shows, including an episode of Halifax f.p. and The Flying Doctors. In 1993, Furness appeared as Chrissy in the television mini-series Stark starring Ben Elton and Jacqueline McKenzie. She also featured in the film Angel Baby directed by Michael Rymer and starring Jacqueline McKenzie and John Lynch.

She switched careers and enrolled at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. After graduating in the early 1980s, she did stage performances in New York before going back to Australia. She rose to prominence in Australia after her critically acclaimed and award-winning performance in Shame (1988).

She is an adoptive mother of two and is known for her work assisting orphans globally and streamlining international adoptions, especially in her native Australia where she is a patron, and one of the creators, of National Adoption Awareness Week. She has addressed the National Press Club of Australia on the subject of adoption laws in Australia.

She established the Jackman Furness Foundation for the Performing Arts to support art students and upcoming performing artists. The actress is also a World Vision ambassador and a patron of the Lighthouse Foundation for displaced children.

Furness is a patron of the Lighthouse Foundation for displaced children and International Adoption Families for Queensland. She is also a Goodwill Ambassador for World Vision Australia, an organization that works in long-term community development, policy advocacy and change, and emergency relief.

Furness has been a driving force for improving adoption programs and policies, and she founded National Adoption Awareness Month (NAAM) and Adopt Change in Australia.
