A former California corrections officer was arrested on Wednesday for raping more than a dozen inmates at a women’s prison he worked at until last summer.
Gregory Rodriguez, 55, worked at the Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) in Chowchilla from 2010 to 2022. The Los Angeles Times reported that Rodriguez resigned last summer after investigators with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Office of Internal Affairs approached him regarding their probe.
The allegations against Gonzalez back as far as 2014, but most of the criminal charges pertain to his last two years at the prison, District Attorney Sally Moreno told The Los Angeles Times.
According to KMPH, Moreno also said that more victims came out after the first one came forward during their investigation.
“[It] begs the question, you know, there may still be other victims out there,” she commented.
Gonzalez is charged with 96 counts of rape, sodomy, sexual battery, and rape threatening to use authority. KMPH reported that he is also accused of smuggling drugs into CCWF, which is the state’s largest women’s prison.

Court records indicated that Gonzalez remains jailed in lieu of $7.8 million bond.
