A man from Illinois, whose wife tragically fell to her death from their 24th-floor condo, has been sentenced for a domestic violence offense that took place back in Michigan, where the couple previously lived.

Adam Beckerink, 47, appeared in court on Monday, where he was sentenced after entering a no contest plea to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. This charge stemmed from an incident in January 2024 involving his late wife, Caitlin Tracey, 36. Sadly, Tracey died several months later following a fatal fall from their Chicago condo.

Earlier this year, in March, Beckerink was apprehended by Cook County authorities due to a warrant issued for his arrest on the domestic violence charge in Michigan. This warrant was a consequence of his failure to attend a court hearing related to the charge, as he was still in Chicago at the time, being interrogated about his wife’s untimely death.

The domestic dispute on January 13, 2024, saw police noting that Tracey had visible injuries, including cuts on her lips and red marks. Tracey accused Beckerink of assault and claimed that he had taken some of her belongings.

According to Chicago’s ABC affiliate WLS, a June hearing in the case revealed that bodycam footage from an August 2024 domestic violence incident between the couple might be introduced at trial. However, this trial did not proceed, as Beckerink ultimately pleaded no contest to domestic violence and contempt of court charges.

On Monday, Beckerink was sentenced to 93 days in jail plus two years probation for interfering with a 911 call. A charge of resisting arrest was dismissed. WLS reported that he could be released after 72 days because of time served.

Beckerink has not been charged in the death of his late wife, whose “pulverized” body was found on Oct. 27, 2024, at the bottom of a stairwell in the Chicago high-rise where they had a condo. Tracey’s manner of death was stated to be undetermined. Cook County authorities still consider Beckerink to be a suspect in Tracey’s death.
