A dispute over a checkout line at a Marshalls store in Kearny, New Jersey, escalated into violence on Saturday, resulting in a stabbing, according to local authorities.
Responding officers discovered a woman with minor injuries in the parking lot of the store. The victim, who had been stabbed, was treated for non-life-threatening wounds. According to reports from The Observer, Amber Thompson, 25, was found by police hiding in the store’s bathroom, where a kitchen knife was recovered from a baby changing station.
Investigations revealed that the altercation began over the checkout line’s pace, leading to a confrontation outside. Thompson allegedly threatened the victim, who then attempted to leave with her family. However, Thompson reportedly bought a knife set, removed a knife, and pursued the victim to the parking lot, as detailed by The Observer.
The victim sustained superficial stab wounds to her torso. After the incident, Thompson is believed to have fled back into the store, as reported by NJ 101.5.
Thompson faces several charges, including aggravated assault and various weapons charges, and is currently held in custody awaiting a court appearance.
