Missing Tot Quinton Simon’s Grandfather Hit & Killed, Driver Flees Scene & Leaves Body Lying in Road – Crime Online

The grandfather of missing Georgia toddler Quinton Simon has died after being hit by a vehicle in Burke County, police say.

According to a Burke County Sheriff’s Office statement obtained by WSAV, 61-year-old Henry ‘Bubba’ Moss Sr., who’s been identified as Quinton’s paternal grandfather, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Wednesday morning. The incident happened at the intersection of Claxton Road and Bringham Landing Road, in the 9900 block of Highway 23.

Police said the driver fled, leaving the victim’s body lying on the road. Investigators believe the incident happened between 5:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. The Georgia State Patrol is assisting BCSO in investigating the death.

Meanwhile, the search for Quinton continues.

Quinton’s mother, Leilani Simon, reported him missing shortly after 9:30 a.m. on October 5, telling police that her boyfriend, Daniel Youngkin, was the last person to see him around 6 a.m. Simon reportedly told investigators she believed the boy’s biological father took him, but police say the father’s alibi checks out.

After two weeks of searching, police announced they believed Quinton’s body would be found in that landfill outside Savannah and that his mother was the sole suspect in his death.

“We believe he was placed in a specific dumpster at a specific location,” Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley said at the time. “I have every belief that we will find his remains here at the landfill.”

But after two weeks of digging through garbage, investigators have found no sign of the boy.

“We knew going into this landfill search, the odds of recovering Quinton’s remains were low,” police said. “Most landfill searches do not end in a recovery due to many factors including volume of trash to search and compression of the debris, however, we stay focused.”

WSAV reports that Youngkin hasn’t been seen since the start of the search and that the mother remains at the family home.

When local media previously asked Hadley why Simon has not yet been arrested, he said they are still investigating and don’t want to do anything that would jeopardize the case.

“We still have work to do,” Hadley said, adding that Simon is not considered a flight risk. “We still have an investigation to do.”
