The heartbreaking event transpired on November 3 at a residence in West Babylon, New York, during a gathering that attracted between 90 to 100 partygoers. According to police reports, a confrontation erupted around 10:30 p.m., during which the suspect allegedly stabbed Delemo. Despite being swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, the young victim succumbed to his injuries during surgery, just weeks shy of his 16th birthday.
This devastating loss has deeply impacted the community, particularly at West Babylon High School, where Delemo was a student. In response to the tragedy, the school announced a delayed opening in the days following his death, offering support services to grieving students. The community continues to mourn the untimely loss of a young life, as they come to terms with this senseless act of violence.
Police said that a fight broke out at around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, culminating in the suspect allegedly stabbing Delemo. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and died of his injuries. Local NBC affiliate WNBC reported that Delemo died during surgery and was weeks away from turning 16.
Local news station News 12 Long Island reported that West Babylon High School, where Delemo was a student, had a delayed opening a couple of days after his death. Support services were being provided to students following the tragedy.
The suspect, who resides in Syosset in neighboring Nassau County, was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at Suffolk County”s First District Court.
In addition to the 17-year-old suspect, the homeowner also faces charges of her own in connection with the fatal stabbing. Bonnie Miranda, 70, the grandmother of the teenager who threw the party, was charged with allegedly breaking Suffolk County’s Social Host Law and endangering the welfare of a child.
