A man from North Carolina, living with HIV, has confessed to a shocking incident where he deliberately removed an IV from his arm and sprayed his blood into the eyes of two hospital staff members. This occurred while he was being treated for diabetes-related issues, as detailed in court documents.

Kameron Gilchrist, who was 25 years old at the time of the incident in March, admitted his guilt on Thursday to two charges of assault with a deadly weapon. He received a sentence of 91 days in jail, though he was credited for the 91 days he had already served, according to court documents.

The official charges state that Gilchrist “did unlawfully and willfully assault” the hospital workers using a bodily fluid. The charges emphasize that the defendant’s blood, which contains HIV—a dangerous communicable disease—is considered a deadly weapon, as noted in the legal documents accompanying his plea agreement.

The incident unfolded at the UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh during Gilchrist’s diabetic treatment, where he targeted two medical staff members, one male and one female, according to police reports.
